I received my Master’s in clinical social work from the University of Southern California and I have experience in working with clients struggling with problematic substance and alcohol use, depression, and anxiety.
Life can be difficult, and we all find ourselves at times struggling with difficult thoughts and feelings. Past traumas or current stressors can leave us feeling anxious, depressed, or disconnected from ourselves and others. As a psychotherapist, I provide a compassionate, safe, and non-judgmental space for clients to explore with curiosity their feelings, thoughts, behaviors, and how they serve them and where they would like to bring in change.

I then pursued a Master's Degree with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from Pepperdine University. While I was attending graduate school, I took a position with a company providing Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), working as a behavioral therapist with children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). It was here that I found my passion for working with children and families.

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who specializes in Eating Disorders and Substance abuse, and PTSD/Trauma. I approach my clients from a team stance, always making sure they have a well-rounded support base around them. I am EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) trained and use it as a tool with my existing clients and as well as see clients who primarily seek EMDR sessions to move stuck experiences and core beliefs. To me, the importance of therapy is to get your life back into balance as addiction and trauma can create an "all or nothing" element and a repetition of patters and maladaptive behaviors.

Many people experience anxiety, depression, and low-self-esteem. Often, they feel there is no one to trust and no one who can understand them. The impact of this emotional suffering can make daily life painful. It can put strain on relationships with family, friends, and peers. I specialize in working with individuals and have found that there are similar challenges that we all face while trying to navigate through our daily lives. Typically the client's that I work with have not been feeling like themselves for a while and this has led to struggles with their loved ones.

I believe the best way to make progress in therapy is to have trust that your therapist understands you and makes you feel as comfortable as possible. I will try my very best to be that person for you. Therapy can seem weird, and vulnerability is hard for anyone. My name is Jess and I am an LCSW in California. I have worked in the medical field for most of my career. This has given me the unique opportunity to work with people of all ages, backgrounds, and situations.

Life can be really tough sometimes and has been for a lot of people lately. Between the stress of a pandemic which has come with a lot of health concerns, job stress, and financial issues, and then there is still the rest of life and its stressors to deal with on top of that. At this point, no one is immune to mental distress, and no one should feel like they can’t, shouldn’t, or aren’t worthy of having someone to help them through it. I can and want to be there for you in this way.

Alcohol Use Therapists
Are there specific medications for alcohol use?
There are oral medications approved to treat alcohol use disorder—such as disulfiram, acamprosate, and naltrexone, which also comes in an injectable form. These medications do help people reduce their drinking as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone helps reduce cravings, disulfiram can make a person feel sick when they drink, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
How do alcohol recovery or rehabilitation programs work?
In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other patients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals live at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff can also include people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other tools for recovery.
How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.
How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for alcohol use reduce the amount of alcohol they intake. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
