I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who specializes in Eating Disorders and Substance abuse, and PTSD/Trauma. I approach my clients from a team stance, always making sure they have a well-rounded support base around them. I am EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) trained and use it as a tool with my existing clients and as well as see clients who primarily seek EMDR sessions to move stuck experiences and core beliefs. To me, the importance of therapy is to get your life back into balance as addiction and trauma can create an "all or nothing" element and a repetition of patters and maladaptive behaviors.

Do you find yourself having a difficult time coping with anxiety, depression, and trauma? Do you have a hard time communicating and setting boundaries with others? Life is full of obstacles and hardships that may be difficult to overcome without the right tools, resources, and, guidance leading to the manifestation of these symptoms. I specialize in working with adults, couples, and adolescents using a Psychodynamic approach to explore unconscious thoughts and behaviors. In doing this, we are able to collaboratively recognize old ineffective patterns and process unresolved feelings and trauma.

Sometimes we can feel stuck. Maybe you find yourself repeating habits that are hurting you and/or others but you can't seem to stop the cycle. Perhaps you have had a painful experience that you are having difficulty healing from. It may be that you are so anxious or overwhelmed with negative feelings, it feels hard to enjoy life and move forward in a meaningful way. Or possibly, it's just that you can't seem to shake that critical voice inside that says you aren't good enough.

Here's what I want you to know: You were born ready and able to be happy, and have a satisfying life--that's natures way. And, yet, at any point in life there can be many 'causes & reasons' for life turning in a different direction; and there can be many kinds of 'symptoms & behaviors’ that emerge when things go sideways; and when this occurs, we all can use some support to get back on track. For right now, just know that reaching for support is itself a sign of strength, and is also built into our human nature.

I offer in person, outdoor eco-garden sessions (w/ indoor & phone when needed.) I laugh a lot with my clients and though the work of healing can be painful, my clients usually begin to feel better and keep coming. I work well with creative people, BIPOC, and across the spectrums of straight to queer and mono to poly. I have specializations in Psychoanalytic psychotherapy, Mindfulness, Buddhist and Existential psychotherapy and a background in philosophy. I collaborate with your highest functioning self to support your confused, critical, scared young parts. The psyche is resilient and thrives on love and therapeutic attention.

All too often struggles deplete our energy and leave us feeling down on ourselves. Through rigorous conversation and a highly supportive relationship, I help people gain the clarity and confidence needed to produce desired change. I have extensive training in postmodern therapies, which examine how dominant cultural discourses can have oppressive effects on our lives, identities, and relationships. Prior to working in private practice, I was part of UCLA's network, where I brought social justice aims to integrative models of mental health. I have many years of experience working with couples, families, youth, and adults.

Have you ever had the thought that you can’t remember what it’s like to NOT feel anxious? Does your mind continuously operate on overdrive? Are you tired of the same repetitive thought patterns? Is life feeling like one endless chore with no light at the end of the tunnel? Have you ever told yourself you know you need to make a change, but you can't muster the will power to follow through? Do you feel stuck in your relationship patterns but don't know what or how to change? If you answered yes to any of the above, we might be a great match. I believe that great therapy involves using many lenses or frameworks in order to heal.

I deeply believe in the healing process and an individual's innate capacity for transformation. With over a decade of experience working as a clinical therapist, I believe it's not about working harder but working smarter. Our goal is primarily to identify all of the blocks (namely old patterns, limiting beliefs, old habits, patterns of avoidance, etc.) that are interfering with your brain and body's natural tendency towards healing. This can show up as addictions, chronic pain, anxiety, or depression. Whatever you're working through, your system will guide us towards healing and, ultimately, equilibrium.

Many of us have gone through experiences that leave us feeling stuck, unmotivated, or without hope for change. The promise of psychotherapy is that it offers a path that illuminates the conscious and unconscious limiting beliefs we unknowingly come to identify with. It allows us a framework where insight becomes possible - and the opportunity for a relationship that is dedicated to knowing you deeply. In this sense, I believe we are partners working to understand your motivations, fears, and deepest hopes so that you can feel a greater sense of freedom and empowerment in your life and in your future.

People come to me when they feel overwhelmed by their emotions, stuck in spirals of anxiety, depression, or trauma responses. I provide one-on-one, couples, and group therapy to help people explore their identities and relationship issues so that they can overcome the walls they have unintentionally created that may be shutting others out. I tend to work best with those who are curious about themselves and eager to grow.

Compared to many other psychologists, my therapy style may be more goal oriented, assertive, and with a stronger focus on observing and measuring therapeutic progress over longer term emotional processing. My approach is based on my belief that we do have the power to create healthy emotions & dismantle unwanted emotions. When meeting with you, I'll want to understand how your ongoing circumstances, emotions, behaviors, or thoughts impact the short term as well as the overall outcomes in your life. I base my treatment on evidenced-based inventions, eastern & wellness perspectives, and a conscious awareness approach.

Waitlist for new clients
I work with adolescent and adult clients in individual, couples & family therapy. My personal philosophy is that through human connection, we can foster the encouragement needed to take courageous steps toward seeing an old pattern through a new perspective to create positive change. I use a strengths-based approach & believe in the inherent wisdom of each individual. Therapy thus serves as a road map, illuminating the path so the client can make conscious choices. My attitude is one of respect and acceptance of each client's self-image and world-view allowing for the creation of a safe, therapeutic container.

If you’re at a point in your life where “rethinking” resonates more than “continuing as is,” you’re in the right place. You’ve been playing by the rules — the career path, the relationship milestones, the relentless pursuit of happiness as defined by everyone but yourself. Do you have everything you’re supposed to want, yet still feel like something’s missing? Maybe you’re haunted by anxiety, shame, depression, guilt, or fear, all because you’re living a life that doesn’t truly align with your values or desires.

Alcohol Use Therapists

Are there specific medications for alcohol use?

There are oral medications approved to treat alcohol use disorder—such as disulfiram, acamprosate, and naltrexone, which also comes in an injectable form. These medications do help people reduce their drinking as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone helps reduce cravings, disulfiram can make a person feel sick when they drink, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.

How do alcohol recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other patients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals live at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff can also include people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other tools for recovery.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for alcohol use reduce the amount of alcohol they intake. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
