Working in Mental Health for over 12 years, I've learned that people are literally trying to put the pieces of their life together just to make it through the day. Being sensitive to this, I've developed my practice model around the following quote, "We're only as strong as our weakest link; therefore, do your best to strengthen someone today!"

We all encounter events and periods of life that are difficult to understand and overcome. Mental Health issues like depression, anxiety, grief, post-traumatic stress, relationship issues can be difficult and overwhelming to face alone and we often need support and guidance to find healing.

To me, counseling is not just a way to address a certain feeling or behavior but rather a way to get to know ourselves better so that we may feel more comfortable and confident in the world around us. As a counselor, I believe the most important part of therapy is trusting in the therapeutic relationship so that you are able to uncover ideas about your personality, experiences, and values and how they can help you overcome your concerns and achieve your goals.

Have you ever felt that life is just too overwhelming? Like maybe you’re taking 3 steps forward and 2 steps back or as hard as you try things just don’t seem to fall into place? If so then you could benefit from having a professional counselor to help you process what’s going on in your life. My job would be to walk with you on your journey, hold up a mirror for you to help you identify any patterns and obstacles and help come up with possible solutions. My job is to help you not have to walk on your journey alone.

I am equipped to work with individuals who may have personality disorders, suicidal ideation, depression, and/or self-harm. However, I operate from the perspective that the client is the expert. It is my job to empower their autonomy, meaning, and hope already within them. As you color the room, I hope to make the space safe enough to make observations about your values, not mine. What is important to you? What does therapy look like to you? Let us accomplish the goals you already have set out, and discover new ones together.

Currently accepting new clients on Tues & Sun. Are you tired of people trying to cheer you up and having your depression misunderstood? Have you lost your sense of gratitude and engagement in life? If so, I'm glad you're here. I focus on deep depression and the issues that commonly surround it (suicidality, grief, anxiety, and substance abuse). While there are many effective "techniques" that improve depression and weaken its allies, therapy is a special kind of healing relationship more than a set of techniques. If the partnership is good, we can learn from each other and find a new way forward for you.

I counsel on many sensitive and intimate topics. Are you struggling with marital issues, have an at-risk teen, grief, gambling, substance abuse, depression, anxiety, or a chronic illness? Is a relationship or career choice no longer serving you in a positive way? My office is a nurturing place that welcomes openness and individuality. I'm an outside the box thinker, a supporter of the LGBTQ plus community, someone who has a personal investment in your success, and can be the confidential sounding board that is difficult to find.

Alcohol Use Therapists

Are there specific medications for alcohol use?

There are oral medications approved to treat alcohol use disorder—such as disulfiram, acamprosate, and naltrexone, which also comes in an injectable form. These medications do help people reduce their drinking as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone helps reduce cravings, disulfiram can make a person feel sick when they drink, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.

How do alcohol recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other patients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals live at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff can also include people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other tools for recovery.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for alcohol use reduce the amount of alcohol they intake. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
