You or your child may be having difficulty at work, school, home, with friends, or with family members and you are not sure what to do about it! These difficulties may include difficulty managing emotions, worrying about things, problems with attention, and/or getting along and connecting with other people. You may feel that you have tried everything to help yourself and/or your child and nothing seems to work. There is a ton of information available-friends, social media, etc. All this information can be conflicting and make things even more overwhelming. You don't have to do this alone. Therapy can help you or your child!

What would you like your life to look like after you have emotionally healed? Maybe you're unsure of what you need, but you know that you want things to be different. I want to assure you that in all of the overwhelming chaos, the challenges that may cause you to feel stuck, broken and defeated, healing is possible. I believe one of the strongest things you can do, is begin to understand your own story, while working towards the life that you desire.

Do you have a history of trauma or abuse, anxiety or depression? Are you struggling to live out life in your family that you know that God has for you? We strongly believe that God has a "good, pleasing, and perfect will" (Romans 12:2) for your life. We believe that God has called us to "be continually renewed in the spirit of your mind" (Ephesians 4:23), and at Renewing Minds Therapy, we would be honored to walk with you on your journey of freedom, healing, and wholeness from a Christian counseling worldview.

My work as a therapist and an art therapist since 2014 has focused on supporting clients through life transitions, grief, identity concerns, coping with symptoms of anxiety and depression, and reducing pain while increasing ability for coping. I have experiences working with individuals in individual and group therapy using talk therapy and also art therapy. My populations have included emerging adults and adults at other points in their lifespan. I very much enjoy supporting clients in navigating considerations around identity and racial/cultural experiences. I am strengths-based and goal focused.

It can be daunting to seek outside help for something that might be deeply personal. But sometimes, life can overwhelm us, and we might decide that something is not working for us or that it’s time to pursue a change. In these moments, I want to walk with you through your struggles and help you find your way to healing and contentment. In the therapy process, I value the insight you bring about your life and experience, and the work we do together will be, first and foremost, a collaborative effort.

My mission is to provide clients of all ages with a safe, nonjudgmental space where they can truly feel heard, respected, & empowered. I'm a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, Mental Health Counselor, Certified EMDR Therapist, & Sandtray Therapist. I treat a variety of issues. I believe clients want a therapist who is genuine, compassionate, trustworthy, smart, & funny. They want a therapist who cares about them, wants to hear their story, supports them through the "hard" stuff, teaches them tools to solve problems on their own, celebrates their wins, & helps with accountablity when needed. If this sounds like you, let's talk.

Alcohol Use Therapists

Are there specific medications for alcohol use?

There are oral medications approved to treat alcohol use disorder—such as disulfiram, acamprosate, and naltrexone, which also comes in an injectable form. These medications do help people reduce their drinking as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone helps reduce cravings, disulfiram can make a person feel sick when they drink, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.

How do alcohol recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other patients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals live at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff can also include people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other tools for recovery.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for alcohol use reduce the amount of alcohol they intake. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
