“Seeing” each other online, through telehealth on our “smart phones” has created a continuity of care never thought possible. Living in rural Alaska often creates transportation issues, but with telehealth we eliminate this problem. I used to call my mom every morning to check in with her, get some love and advice and a hug through the phone. Therapy can be just as simple. I look forward to connecting with you from the comfort my home, to the comfort of yours. A whole new meaning to “safe place” has been created through the ease of telehealth. Give me a call and lets start chatting…

Thank you for being here. Sometimes we feel uncertain about the direction of our lives or feel stuck in our career paths, relationships, sexuality, identity, and emotionality. There is a desire for change and feels like there's something missing; perhaps the spark you used to feel. Sometimes, stress, trauma, anxiety, and other internal and external factors are acting as roadblocks and you have little energy or knowledge to push through it alone. I would love to collaborate with you in navigating these challenges through internal exploration with focus on insight oriented approach and coaching to assist in your behavioral change.

“The past is just the past,” they say. You’ve tried to let it go, ignore it, bury it away, but it still seems to haunt you. Growing up you saw the fights, cleaned up the messes, felt the pain of hurtful words, and covered up so many cuts and bruises. You did what you had to do to survive and got out as fast as you could. You were determined that your life would be different. And for the most part it is. Unfortunately, the emotional remnants remain; anxiety, feeling like you’re “not enough,” the disconnect from others...You’re ready to finally shed these struggles, but you need some help getting from here to the life you want.

Throughout our lives we develop belief systems about how and who we 'should' be. These systems create thought, emotion, and behavior patterns that lead to an experience of separation and isolation. I view therapy as an odyssey that moves us back into intimate relationship with self and other.

All your energy goes into your work and your family. You do your best, but showing up for everyone else while hiding your own heavy heart and constantly delaying your own unmet needs has left you feeling trapped and isolated. You've become so skilled at neglecting yourself and masking your own pain that you're not sure what is real and what is performance anymore. Your battle is internal and unseen. Daily, you're fighting to find light while living in what feels like a constant shadow, covering your joy and suffocating your sense of peace. How did this happen? You had goals. Dreams. Ambition. Where did they go?

Being a man is hard enough. Then, trying to open up to someone and work on your struggles while getting in touch with your emotions and feelings. Talk about a challenge. Not to mention the feeling in the back of your mind that a female therapist is judging you. I get the struggle. As men, we have been conditioned and groomed to be a certain way. It's not that we aren't enough or that we are the enemy. We haven't been shown how to address what's going on in our body and mind. My services are for those wanting a nonjudgmental approach while also being held accountable on their path to an evolving self.

I understand how much courage (and sometimes desperation) it takes to reach out for help. I remember how overwhelming and vulnerable it can feel to search for someone to be gentle and safe with your deepest fears and pain, and your most intimate issues and needs. This becomes even more frightening if you've never felt safe or had someone to trust...

I draw on my years in the worlds of holistic, hospital, and international medicine, Somatic Experiencing (SE) and co-regulating touch therapies, deep wilderness, midwifery, refugee/asylum work, and lived practice in many spiritual traditions in order to collaborate with clients and uncover their authentic, often surprising, resilience.

Finding the right fit therapist is a very personalized experience, so it's important to me that clients are confident in this choice. This may be the first time talking about painful experiences, uncomfortable feelings or unhealthy choices. My goal is that clients feel safe in a supportive environment. My approach is less concern for diagnoses, though that's part of the process, and more concern with identifying symptoms. By focusing on these, clients can experience a better quality of life, feel less confused about situations, have confidence in making decisions and feel like they are more in control of their lives.

As a holistic psychotherapist trained under Dr. Gabor Maté, I center curiosity, the wisdom and guidance of your body, and safe, relational attunement as the most crucial elements in healing. Together, we'll deepen awareness of who you are, what you desire, and gently explore beliefs, patterns and adaptations that may no longer serve you. These adaptive mechanisms, developed to cope with our experiences and environment, are not who we are. The pain they cause can be transformed as we shed light on them, allowing us to heal and to become fully present, releasing fear and shame and restoring connection and your capacity to flourish.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.
Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
How much does therapy cost?
The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.
What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?
Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
Are therapy sessions confidential?
Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
