In treating children, adolescents, families and adults for thirty years, my approach has evolved to become increasingly more relaxed, humorous, active, and-at its core-respectful. It is not based on giving advice or otherwise suggesting that I know what is best for you. On the contrary, my therapy (and personal) “voice” has grown to become increasingly grounded in humility and profound empathy, sitting comfortably not being certain, keeping my mind open, listening intensely, putting aside my personal opinions and reference points-all in order for me to genuinely see you and support growth and even transformation.
I appreciate the courage required to deeply examine, from different perspectives, the issues that bring you to therapy in order for you to choose your path with optimal self-awareness and clarity. Inseparable from the psychologist-client professional relationships is, at its core, a human one.
With children and adolescents, I recognize that their parents are the greatest resource, thus I work as closely and collaboratively with them as appropriate in order to share my insights. I have found that the children and adolescents themselves generally want their parents very much in the loop, to help them with the problem that brings them to therapy.
