Psychotherapy can be a powerful tool of transformation, and an opportunity to gain a better handle on the sources of suffering in one's life. This process can take many forms, whether it's finding new ways of thinking and responding in the moment, gaining freedom from past influences, deepening self-understanding and self-acceptance, or finding creative and concrete solutions. I honor the depth and complexity of every client's unique personality, and put great care into listening deeply, asking the right questions, and creating a relaxed therapeutic atmosphere characterized by honesty, open-mindedness, and non-judgmental curiosity.
I work with adults, college students, adolescents, and couples. I specialize in the areas of depression and mood disorders, anxiety in its many forms, problems with interpersonal relationships, recovery from trauma and loss, difficult life transitions, identity issues, spirituality, and substance abuse.
My approach integrates psychoanalytic with cognitive behavioral (CBT) techniques and perspectives, since many people find it useful to balance a quest for deeper understanding alongside a search for new and adaptive strategies. I am also skilled in mindfulness training, and sandtray therapy is available to clients of any age.
