I also provide family and couples therapy.
I provide research based therapeutic interventions. The treatment approach is dependent on the presenting problem; however, I typically work from a cognitive behavioral/interpersonal modality. I believe that our perspective, the way we view ourselves and the world, influences how we interact with our own thoughts as well as how we engage with others.

Life provides us with many challenges that can lead to feeling overwhelmed or unsure of our ability to successfully cope. When we are faced with these challenges, either from depression, adjusting to life transitions or changes in our moods or behaviors, it takes courage for us to make the decision to ask for help through counseling.

With couples, I use the Gottman method and focus not only on developing healthy communication but also on creating greater intimacy and the emotional connection needed for relationships to thrive.
I want to commend you for being brave and taking an important step towards living a healthier life. There's some good news and some bad news. The bad news is that suffering is not always avoidable, as you probably already know. The good news is that we can find healing and learn to suffer well. People walk through life with unhealthy behaviors, emotional injuries, unproductive beliefs, and other burdens that they shouldn’t have to carry and don’t really need to carry. Using evidence based practices, like EMDR and DBT, I help people heal trauma, find relief from past wounds, have a more fulfilling present, and a more hopeful future.

Is your relationship becoming more of a place of frustration than a place of togetherness?
I approach counseling from a cognitive-behavioral perspective. It is the belief that thought patterns & subsequent feelings & behaviors are explored to understand how the client's problems were created & perpetuated & to develop alternative ways of thinking & more effective means of behaving. which asserts that behaviors are purposeful but changeable.

Counseling serves many purposes. It's a safe place to process current and past events. It's an opportunity to learn new skills that will help you cope with distressing emotions or to function better in relationships and other important areas of your life. It's a place to make sense of things and to find meaning and value in life. In short, it is designed to make your life better.

I work with clients who may be dealing with stress, trauma, and relationship issues.
As a woman, you carry so much—balancing career, motherhood, marriage, friendships, and family while feeling like you’re not doing any one thing well. You’re constantly pulled in different directions, struggling to find time for yourself. You feel exhausted, disconnected, and like no one truly understands. The weight of expectations leaves you feeling overwhelmed, frustrated, and stuck in a cycle of stress and self-doubt.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
