I read this simple sentence several years ago: You have survived 100% of your worst days. It’s my go-to reminder we are all built for survival. I believe each individual holds within them a unique set of strengths and skills to help navigate life and all its challenges. During times of change, stress, or crisis, we often feel unable to access and use the skills and tools that could help us move forward. Issues like depression or anxiety can leave us feeling powerless. My passion is helping people of all ages and backgrounds discover and utilize the power and skills deep within them so they can achieve their goals.

Do you feel stuck in a pattern of undesired behaviors? Certified in EMDR therapy, my approach is to move from the oversimplification of behavioral plans/coping strategies to clients learning to lead their lives with purpose. This can be done by clients exploring parts of themselves that may seem powerless to undesired behaviors. Additionally, I look beyond diagnoses to focus on neurobiology and integration of emotional, mental, spiritual, and physical experiences.

Counseling has been defined as "helping others to help themselves". Our journey in life often takes unexpected and unwanted twists and turns. Sometimes a little help is all that's needed to navigate the obstacles and regain our path. It would be my honor to help you to live the life you desire. Help comes through an offer of a warm, inviting environment with a compassionate, nonjudgmental listener. My role is not to tell you what to do or what to think but to help and to guide. I would love the opportunity to talk with you to assist you on your personal journey.

The challenges and difficulties of life can cause a person to feel defeated, hurt, and overwhelmed. Having no one to understand the heartache, frustration, and worries is tiring. Sometimes the only way to get through life is to hide away in a safe space while struggling to make it through another day. That safe space has caused you to feel trapped and miserable in a dark place, wondering what your purpose for living is. You are tired of feeling judged and not heard when you have taken the risk to share your story with others. Instead, you just wish someone would stop and listen without judgement to your story and offer some hope.

Times are tough. I get it. Truly. BUT, so are you. My goal is to SEE you in your need, meet you there, and give you what you need so that YOU can know and understand that YOU are more than capable of making it out of or through that tough time - whatever it is. You are the authority on you and no one knows you better than you, and I will not ever profess to know you better than you know you. What I DO know, however, is trauma... anger... grief and loss... depression... anxiety... money issues.... and I am qualified, through both experience and education, to help you learn to deal with those issues and more.

Thank you for taking a moment to consider me for your counseling needs! I'm a counselor that specializes in children and adolescents, but has a wide scope of experience, ranging from severe mental illness, to parenting, to women's empowerment, and grief. I believe that the best counseling experience is derived when a person feels empowered enough to challenge their own comfort zone and explore their vulnerability, and I actively work to be the counselor that a client can do that with.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
