Hi! I am Kayle Lucas. I believe that counseling is a sacred space and opportunity for you to be heard and respected. I am grounded in the belief that people can be motivated towards achieving positive psychological functioning, and this is essential to every therapeutic relationship and provides the basis for change to occur. I believe you are an expert of your experience, your wants, and your needs. I do not believe there is one single approach or theory that works for everyone in every situation. I have a diverse understanding of theories and I incorporate a variety of therapeutic principles to create the best treatment for you.

I use modern & effective methods such as Brainspotting, EMDR, ACT, DBT, & Play/ Art Therapy.
My ideal client is someone who feels overwhelmed, disconnected, or weighed down by things they can’t always name—anxiety, old wounds, body image struggles, or the pressure of just getting through the day. They’re craving a space to feel seen, supported, and understood. They may not know exactly where to start, but they’re ready for change and want tools that feel practical and personal. They want a therapist who feels human, who listens without judgment, and who helps them move toward healing, growth, and feeling more like themselves again.

I blend evidence-based practices with expressive tools from art and nature therapy to help you connect with yourself in new ways.
Healing begins when we stop letting our past or fears define our future. My approach centers on one truth: you already have the strength to heal—we're just removing what's covering it up. I specialize in helping people move from survival mode to truly thriving. Many of my clients are working to reclaim their voice, rebuild a stronger sense of self, and regain their sense of power after experiencing emotional pain, difficult relationships, or major life transitions. In therapy, we uncover your inner strength and start the process of true healing and lasting change.

I use and integrated approach which includes CBT, DBT, EMDR, Art Therapy, and Client Centered.
There is hope for all! After being a teacher in public schools for 14 years and a director of a faith-based non-profit that helped troubled teens and parents, for 2 years, I decided to go back to school to become a licensed therapist. I enjoy "walking" beside of people who are hurting and struggling with stress, anxiety, trauma, relationships and/or depression. I work with adults, young adults, teens, and couples. I am a wife, mother, and grandmother trying to love others right where they are.

Our work may include expressive arts like art or music therapy, helping you explore emotions in new ways that deepen self-awareness and foster real healing.
Life may look good on the outside—thriving in your career, traveling, buying a home, checking off those educational goals—but when it comes to close relationships, things feel a bit like trying to dance with two left feet, right? I specialize in working with resilient, high-achieving individuals who carry the weight of childhood family dysfunction, emotional neglect, and trauma, often without missing a beat…except in those close connections (insert a lonnnng, deep sigh and the crying emoji, here).

Having to face the daily challenges and exhaustion of life can wear a person out. Dealing with constant worry and struggles can feel like an uphill battle. You often wonder if you will ever overcome the past. You feel like no one understands what you've been through. You wish someone would not just hear you but actually stop to listen without questioning your experience or your mood. You’re tired of feeling isolated and alone while struggling with guilt, shame, and anger. You’re tired of having nightmares, sleepless nights, and intrusive thoughts which replay over and over in your mind. All you want is the pain to stop.

Does life sometimes feel overwhelming and stressful? Have you noticed when just one thing in life is out of balance it can spill over into other areas too? This imbalance affects our moods and behaviors, our relationships and interactions with others personally and professionally. This does not just affect adults, it's affecting our youth and our children. The good thing is there is hope and resolution you already have access to, but perhaps haven't been able to tap into.. just yet.

Art Therapy

How does art therapy work?

The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?

Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?

The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?

Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
