I am an Licensed Professional Counselor and National Certified Counselor I have worked with women and adolescent survivors of abusive relationships(physical(sexual), emotional, mental)
It has been said: "God uses our deepest pain as a launchpad for our highest calling". However, a lot of the times we become immobilized aka "stuck" by the pains we have endured. My goal in counseling is to remind believers and non-believers that there is hope past the pain, shame, and doubt they are experiencing; through modalities of individual, couples, family and pre-marital counseling. Do not let shame and doubt rule over you any longer but instead gain insight and authenticity as you understand your Creator, your process and yourself more fully.

I see women and older teen girls.
When you are carrying a lot, more than most people can see, it's hard to know how to move forward. Maybe it's the constant mental load, pressures of everyday life, past wounds or new ones. Everyone deserves a place to be seen and met with gentleness - when you need to take a breath and exhale. Whether you're a stay at home mom, working mom, in college, in ministry or somewhere in between, sometimes life can feel like too much.

Over 5 years as inpatient pediatric psychotherapist at Children's of Alabama: Children's Behavioral Health-Inpatient Units and Psychiatric Emergency (PIRC), serving children from 3-19 and their caregivers; parenting, women's issues, child/ adolescent therapy, pre- and post-adoption: adoptees and adopters, weight issues, identity - professional and personal, work/life balance
We are the generation raised by parents of the 50s, 60s, and 70s. We were pushed into college and graduate school because our parents worked so hard for us to have the freedom to get higher education and “professional” careers, so we better not forget or squander their sacrifices, right? We entered the workforce in droves as doctors, accountants, nurses, bankers, therapists, business owners, IT specialists, lawyers, clergy, teachers, social workers, etc., and lost who we are at our core.

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
