We are all on a journey…sometimes it can be difficult, but you don’t have to face that journey alone.  If substance abuse, depression, sexual addiction, betrayal trauma, personality disorders, and other life circumstances are weighing you down, I want you to know that things can get better. In my counseling practice, I start from a place of openness and honesty. We will work together to establish a relationship of trust that can help you feel connected as you overcome the obstacles you have been faced with. Recovering from those obstacles requires compassionate support that I hope to provide.

Thank you for taking time to consider counseling. You do not have to tackle this life alone! I believe that every person has value and purpose. We are all made to be great in our own way. When life does not work out the way we intended, whether it is due to addiction, depression/anxiety, or any other life transitions, you have the opportunity to be the greatest version of you in how you respond to each circumstance/situation.

My ideal clients are children, teens, and adults with ADHD, executive functioning challenges, anxiety, depression, or neurodivergent traits who feel capable but struggle to follow through, regulate emotions, or feel confident. Many come to therapy feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or frustrated. They may have difficulty with focus, motivation, impulse control, or emotional regulation. Parents often seek support for a bright child struggling behaviorally, socially, or academically. Teens and adults report overthinking, low self-esteem, lack of direction, or feeling “behind” despite their potential.

Anxiety, depression, grief... we all experience these emotions at some point. But what if they become overwhelming? What if anxiety turns into paralyzing fear, panic attacks, racing thoughts, inability to sleep, do your job, or have a social life? Depression can lead to low motivation, lack of purpose, excessive sleep, or even suicidal thoughts. Grief can rob you of joy, pleasure, and zest for life. These issues and others (stress, job loss, divorce/relationship issues, health issues, etc.) may make life seem unbearable or unmanageable. But it doesn’t have to be. I believe there is hope and a path to healing for you.

Many people believe therapy is a quick fix, or more accurately that a therapist can “fix” us or our problems. In reality, therapy is a process that can take time, but most importantly, hard work. Have you struggled with anxiety, depression, or maintaining social connections? Do you need to repair or restore your marriage? Take first steps in preparing for marriage? Learn how to connect as a family? Find a new normal after divorce? Heal from a loss? Navigate the waters of being a teenager and managing your parents and teacher's expectations? As a therapist with over 20 years of experience, I am excited to help you begin.

Life isn’t always easy. Especially when others are unable to relate to what you feel and experience. You want compassion. It's hard to be your true self around others for fear of judgment. Society wants you to fit into a nice little box and it makes it impossible to be who you are. You can be surrounded by family and loved ones who care about you and want the world for you, yet you feel so lonely and isolated. Sometimes it feels like no one understands you and never will. The pain may seem unbearable. You struggle with so many personal concerns and just want someone who can relate to you with the experience to help.

Your head hits the pillow, but as the world drifts off to sleep you are wide awake wondering why your heart is still racing, your mind is stuck in overdrive, and danger feels like it is around every corner. Anxiety colors your world but it need not rule or ruin your life! You feel it in your body as restlessness, heightened sensitivity to your surroundings, or that panicky too-much-coffee feeling. You feel it in your mind as racing thoughts you can’t turn off, worst-case scenario planning, and constant evaluation of every conversation you’ve had or decision you’ve made in the past three days…or three months…or since you were six.

There are three birds on a wire. One decides to fly away, how many are left? Answer: Three. The one just decided to fly away. It didn’t actually do it. Perhaps you have decided that you are going to change. Are you ready to do so? David believes that we already have everything we need within ourselves, including the presence of the Divine within us. As a therapist, David’s role is to create a space where individuals can do the work it takes to move toward wholeness.

It’s not working anymore. Maybe your relationships end up chaotic, maybe you are struggling to be happy, or maybe you have lost meaning in your life. Whatever it is, as hard and long as you have tried, maybe you can’t figure out how to fix it? I’ve been there in that dark place, and I found someone who was able to help me. I’d like to be that person for you. I’ve spent several years studying the pain people go through, and I’ve had my fair share. You won’t experience judgement, shock, or surprise. I am in recovery, and I am able to live life on life’s terms. Things can change, and hope is here for you.

FAQ - Therapist Gender
As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?
There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?
Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?
Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?
Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
