I have experience working with adolescent and adult clients experiencing depression, anxiety, trauma, abuse, addictions, personality disorders, and stress from transitions.
Maybe you are feeling overwhelmed, constantly anxious, or like you no longer want to get out of bed in the morning. Maybe you are miserable, apathetic or afraid all the time and you don't know how to regain balance. Maybe you've gone through a lot of changes recently, or you've lost a lot of close relationships. Maybe your closest relationship is causing you pain and stress, and you want to figure out how to better navigate it. Maybe you're struggling with an addiction and it's making it hard to go to school or work. Or maybe something really terrible happened in your life and you feel stuck.

We do not always get to choose our circumstances but we do choose our response and behavior. However, it is not always that simple, and finding your best self takes time. Life can throw some real challenges our way but with empowerment and encouragement, I want to help you identify how to choose your best responses and behavior. Happiness is a choice and it's a choice you deserve to make for yourself. As a counselor, I strive to create a safe environment free from judgment and filled with unconditional acceptance. You are the best expert on "you" even when it may not seem clear.

Thank you for the opportunity for considering me to work with you. My background is unique and varied which provides a broad range of knowledge, and experiences from having served in the U.S. Army, worked in Law Enforcement for over twenty-five years, worked on a church staff and as Therapist. I find it rewarding to help individuals realize their potential, see hope in a better future and becoming their best selves in life. "My purpose today is clearer today than it has been in years: Love, Courage, Truth...The best way we can serve people is to listen." - Glennon Doyle Melton I chose this quote to emphasize that by "listening" to one another, by being present, we provide a safe place for those who are willing to sacrifice and own their pain by sharing it with others. As a Licensed Professional Counselor, I am here to walk alongside you as you process life's challenges and show you that by speaking your truth, by digging deep, together, we are able to demonstrate that taking care of our Mental Health is the ultimate sign of strength.

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
