“Dance like no one is watching, sing like no one is listening. . ."Mark Twain. This quote illustrates the kind of practice I strive to create. I believe it is necessary to encourage clients to feel free from judgment, criticism, or fear from what someone else thinks. My goal is to provide a safe place using an eclectic approach involving person centered therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and motivational interviewing. This allows clients to establish a course that is personally tailored to meet the needs of those with substance use disorders, anxiety, depression, and trauma.

Why try therapy? Because you deserve it. You deserve to be listened to, to be understood and not told to "just snap out of it". You deserve to take care of yourself, to feel good about yourself and to believe that you matter. You deserve to learn ways to manage and deal with depression, anxiety, the past, addictive behaviors, negative self-talk, feelings of worthlessness, and/or overwhelming life issues so that they do not dominate and control your life.

You’re wondering how you got here. Hurting yourself is not filling the void and it’s not making the numbness or the bad feelings go away. You’re feeling sad, unmotivated, drained, lost, anxious, and wondering how you will get through another day. Meeting new friends should be the best part of your life but you still can’t let yourself trust anyone or maybe not even trust yourself. You’re ready to release the hopelessness. How would it feel to have a life of support, feeling safe to trust in healthy relationships, feeling fulfilled in life, and feeling joy in what makes you happy?

The fact that you’ve landed on my profile tells me that there is still hope in your heart. Hope that things can get better. Hope that you can live a better life. Hope that you no longer have to struggle. I never realized how many times per day I used the word “hope” until after I named my practice. I would be willing to bet that you use it a lot, too. Are you a veteran or family member seeking direction, I can help. Individual, couple and group sessions are available with hours that work for you. Sometimes life can bring us to our knees. When it does, I've found, it's important to have the right support system. Learning how to look at painful experiences differently and live a value-based life can mean the difference between existing and thriving. Personal experience has shown me that a change in perspectives, and developing new skills, have the power to transform our pain into a powerful life experience.

Our practice was established in 2015 and we are here to help the community. I've been serving this community as a therapist for 13 years, and I am here to help you grow, heal, and change. I usually like to understand your story and life experiences that have led you to the place you are in at this moment, so that we can unroot some belief systems that have held you back from your full potential. A new perspective and understanding can change everything. Due to my training and experience, there is little that would surprise me. I offer a nonjudgemental atmosphere that will offer you tools and insight to promote change in your life.

Life can be a bumpy road. The path we take can lead us to happiness or to despair. Making a wrong turn, not knowing which way to go or reaching what seems like a dead end is not the end of your journey. Sometimes we all need help getting to where we want to be. As a counselor, I help make your journey a more positive one. Grief and loss can stop you in your tracks and hinder you from moving forward. The loss of a loved one, job, relationship, pregnancies or even your life before illness or change can cause feelings of grief. Counseling helps work through the pain of your loss to experience joy again. A life you want is within reach.

Women's Issues Therapists
How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
How can women prepare for therapy?
Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.
How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.
How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?
Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
