I am Clinical Director of Veterans Recovery Resources, a community-based organization offering compassionate, evidence-based, inter-disciplinary, and
trauma
-informed behavioral health care to persons struggling to heal from
trauma
, addiction, depression, anxiety, and other mental health concerns.
My practice primarily serves military veterans, service members, first responders, and other persons who are struggling with emotional, relational, and/or spiritual issues related to
trauma
, loss, and addiction. I rely heavily on acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and other empirically supported approaches. I also believe that spirituality and/or religious faith can provide powerful sources of strength and suffering in the healing process. As such, I enjoy assuming a holistic approach according to my clients' core beliefs/values in a manner that ultimately leads to greater meaning, purpose, and belonging in life.

They are fundamentally linked to many problems, including
PTSD
, depression, substance abuse, mood disorders, and anxiety disorders.
Dr. Kline's practice provides a compassionate, relaxed, and informal, environment where people in emotional pain can focus on getting better without fear of judgment. With experience and expertise spanning cognitive, behavioral, emotional, neurophysiological, and sociocultural levels of analysis, he provides an integrative, individualized, non-pharmacological approach to treating mental illness. If you are already taking medication, psychotherapy can help make it more effective. He believes that a diagnosis can help inform treatment, but does not define you. Diagnostic categories often don't entirely fit a given individual, so treatment needs to reflect individual goals and needs.

I specialize in the areas of addiction, profound grief/bereavement, emotional
trauma
and Gottman Method Couples Therapy My style is humanistic and person centered, and my affect is candid but mindful.
"You are strong enough to face it all, even if it doesn't feel like it right now" . This quote speaks quite loudly to me because upon reflection, I find that Life has a way of interfering when I am busy doing something else. I have spent the better part of 25 years learning who I am and have willingly and sometimes unwillingly faced harsh realities I would not chose for anyone, much less myself. One of the most important things that has proven to be true for me, is that if I can find meaning in events that shattered my world or at the very least, shook it up, then my understanding and insight increased and I could find peace.

I specifically offer services to those who are facing a range of mental health issues, including depression, anxiety, relationship issues,
PTSD
, and C-
PTSD
.
This world is a broken place, and all of us are affected by that brokenness. Often, we seek to escape or cover the pain by pretending we don't hurt and looking to relationships and addictive behaviors to cope. As we avoid what's really happening inside, we can find ourselves struggling with depression, anxiety, and many other mental health issues. I look forward to working with clients who are hoping for a deeper level of healing and who are ready to do the courageous work of facing the truth about their story and how it has affected them.

When people have experienced
trauma
, losses, stressors, and difficulties in relationships, they sometimes struggle to find hope. When relationships with friends, children & family are confusing and challenging, many feel isolated. You may judge yourself harshly instead of practicing self-compassion, leading to feelings of low self-esteem. In addition to meeting the needs of people struggling with anxiety, depression,
trauma
, grief, and family conflict, members of the adoption triad will find a safe space here to explore their story and prepare to meet the unique needs that encompass adoption.

The nature of
trauma
often creates a sense of feeling stuck and disconnected from ourselves and others.
Living this life can be difficult and burdensome. I have found that everyone encounters moments of harmful disruption, and these experiences can have lasting effects on one's whole self (body, mind and spirit). These moments can be anything from significant traumatic events to even negative relational experiences and abuses. I engage my clients with
trauma
-based approaches from a Christian perspective to allow for resolution of emotional stuck points so a sense of reconciliation and ultimate wholeness can be experienced.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists
When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.
How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.
What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.
Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
