When navigating different life circumstances do you ever find yourself wondering what you could do to make difficult situations have better outcomes? Maybe you want others to better hear or understand you. At times we can all be frustrated with the way we feel or the way we try to express our emotions; like anger , stress, love, hate, anxiety, depression, grief, regret, or loss. Perhaps you want to be a better parent or co-parent but communication is at a standstill. Maybe you just need a place to safely vent where what you say will not be held against you for decades.

This shows itself as anxiety, depression, caregiver fatigue, grief, substance use, anger , infidelity, or so many other issues.
I practice a holistic approach to therapy where you and I work together to help you as a whole person, not just one concern. I believe in reinforcing what strengths you already have while challenging which patterns slow down or stop progress or growth. There's no "right or wrong, good or bad" in addressing concerns. There's what works and what doesn't. Together, we can find what works to do more of it, and less of what doesn't.

As a mom of twins, I know how challenging parenting can be. Social media influences, self harm behaviors, impulse control, anger management , bullying and low self worth are just a few of the issues adolescents and their families must navigate. Better relationships within the family unit are possible. Seeing your child smile again is possible. Laughing with your children again is possible. Your adolescent making good choices again is possible. It just requires, change. Start Over, Start Now. Let today be your Day 1.

While I continue to specialize in addiction using the disease model, I am also experienced with couples counseling, anger management , women's issues and those in the criminal justice system.
“Dance like no one is watching, sing like no one is listening. . ."Mark Twain. This quote illustrates the kind of practice I strive to create. I believe it is necessary to encourage clients to feel free from judgment, criticism, or fear from what someone else thinks. My goal is to provide a safe place using an eclectic approach involving person centered therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and motivational interviewing. This allows clients to establish a course that is personally tailored to meet the needs of those with substance use disorders, anxiety, depression, and trauma.

I work with a wide variety of people on an array of issues. For those who have never talked to a therapist or counselor before, I strive to help them feel comfortable and unconditionally accepted in this important encounter. Many have already had some therapy in the past, and I enjoy enhancing their experience through new and dynamic interventions, building on the individual's own strength and knowledge. Together we will identify changes that you want to make and discuss the best interventions to enhance these changes. I am an experienced therapist who can help facilitate insight, awareness, and skill building.

Anger Management Therapists

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
