In the beginning, I focused on helping others and their families with substance use addiction .
“Dance like no one is watching, sing like no one is listening. . ."Mark Twain. This quote illustrates the kind of practice I strive to create. I believe it is necessary to encourage clients to feel free from judgment, criticism, or fear from what someone else thinks. My goal is to provide a safe place using an eclectic approach involving person centered therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and motivational interviewing. This allows clients to establish a course that is personally tailored to meet the needs of those with substance use disorders, anxiety, depression, and trauma.

I am committed to helping individuals who suffer from drug and alcohol addiction , eating disorders, and personality disorders find freedom in being their authentic self.
Every person has an inherent need to feel seen, heard, and understood. When these critical needs aren't met, it's common for coping mechanisms that are both ineffective and self-destructive to take shape, which can then lead to feelings of frustration, isolation, and a sense of being "stuck." Whether your negative feelings manifest themselves as anxiety, depression, impulsive behaviors, addiction , or the inability to connect with others, navigating these struggles alone can be overwhelming. No matter how helpless you may feel, it's important to know that you're not alone. Finding healing and freedom is possible!

Don't you just love talking about feelings, challenges and emotions?! Of course not...but that's ok because that makes you completely normal! This doesn't come naturally to many of us, however, sometimes life brings us to a point where we need to turn outside ourselves, family and/or friends for support. I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker with experience working with individuals, couples, children, adolescents, and families.

Our Certified Sex Addiction Therapists help you use proven methods to restore sexual and relationship integrity, rebuild trust, and cope with betrayal trauma.
Have you just found out that your spouse or significant other has been engaging in sexual behaviors and lying about it? Maybe it was sexting, an emotional affair, pornography, or other sexual behaviors. Whatever it was, it was kept from you and you feel lied to, betrayed, and fooled. Or maybe you are the one engaging in sexual behaviors that you have tried to stop but, no matter how much effort you put into stopping, you return to that same behavior over and over. Maybe you are grieving a relationship loss, trying to figure out how to parent now that things have changed or you just feel stuck in the same old patterns.

Past trauma, relational problems, depression, addiction , stress, and anxiety disorders are among many mental health conditions that I treat.
I work with a wide variety of people on an array of issues. For those who have never talked to a therapist or counselor before, I strive to help them feel comfortable and unconditionally accepted in this important encounter. Many have already had some therapy in the past, and I enjoy enhancing their experience through new and dynamic interventions, building on the individual's own strength and knowledge. Together we will identify changes that you want to make and discuss the best interventions to enhance these changes. I am an experienced therapist who can help facilitate insight, awareness, and skill building.

I work with LGBTQ, life-stage transition, dysphoria, pain, adjustment, anxiety, depression, couples, sexual issues and substance use.
I practice a holistic approach to therapy where you and I work together to help you as a whole person, not just one concern. I believe in reinforcing what strengths you already have while challenging which patterns slow down or stop progress or growth. There's no "right or wrong, good or bad" in addressing concerns. There's what works and what doesn't. Together, we can find what works to do more of it, and less of what doesn't.

My practice primarily serves military veterans, service members, first responders, and other persons who are struggling with emotional, relational, and/or spiritual issues related to trauma, loss, and addiction . I rely heavily on acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and other empirically supported approaches. I also believe that spirituality and/or religious faith can provide powerful sources of strength and suffering in the healing process. As such, I enjoy assuming a holistic approach according to my clients' core beliefs/values in a manner that ultimately leads to greater meaning, purpose, and belonging in life.

I provide individual or group treatment for individuals having a multitude of issues including behavioral, substance abuse, and anger management, to include those involved in the criminal justice system.
We all want to be emotionally healthy to realize our true potential. However, tension and disorder often make this seem impossible. Family, loved ones, and friends recognize when you are hurting but they may not know how to offer essential support. How do you begin a journey of restoration and transformation? Connecting with a caring, non-judgmental professional is the first step toward the restorative process for life balance, inner peace, control over decisions and transitions, and hopefulness. Talk with a professional who understands and genuinely cares for your well-being.

I am an Allender Trained therapist working with clients who have significant stories of harm. My focus is in issues of trauma, addiction , grief, shame and relational issues for both men, women and couples. My training is in a narrative approach, helping people uncover their story, leading to pathways of healing. It is in relationships that we get wounded and it is in relationships that we find healing. We are storied people. Our stories include places of harm and trauma. I believe the work in healing and growth is uncovering our stories and bringing care to the places of harm.

Addiction Therapists

What is the best therapy for addiction?

Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?

Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?

The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason, “interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
