As a therapist, my goal is for you to leave each session feeling like you accomplished something. Change is hard and therapy can be scary. Let me help. From the wise words of Shannon L. Alder, "Courage doesn't happen when you have all the answers. It happens when you are ready to face the questions you have been avoiding your whole life."

Starting therapy can feel overwhelming — you may be carrying stress, grief, or old patterns that no longer serve you. Maybe you’re navigating a life transition, struggling with past hurts, or feeling stuck in your relationships. Perhaps you want clarity, connection, and to be understood. You may long for change but aren't sure where to start.

Life is challenging and learning to navigate it in a healthy manner is key to being happy. Are you just content or satisfied where you are in life or do you want to “reach for the stars” but life has taken the wind out of your sails? I like to meet people where they are and as a counselor help them reach where they want to be mentally. I believe my life experiences have shaped me into a counselor that connects with clients without judgement. Connecting to a counselor is the most important aspect of counseling because without a connection you may not feel comfortable being vulnerable.

I am here to be a tool for you! I want to help you get on your desired path, even if that means searching for what that path could be to help you thrive at life. Many of us have been given the idea that counseling is only for problems. Absolutely, counseling is a great tool for when problems do arise, but it can be used to keep the good going and maybe even spring forward to great. We are naturally talented at seeing problems. I want to help you to be reprogrammed to see what is going well and then to do more of that in your life. Let me know when you would like to get together to build from wherever you may currently find yourself.

I have extensive experience working with individuals, couples, and families. My approach to therapy is deeply relational and rooted in evidence-based practices that help clients heal and strengthen the relationships that matter most. Many emotional and relational challenges stem from nervous system dysregulation—a state where the body and mind struggle to find calm amid stress or trauma. I help clients become aware of their unique signals of distress and teach somatic coping skills to restore balance. By creating a safe and supportive space for vulnerability, I guide clients toward deeper connection, emotional safety, and resilience

Sex is a normal, necessary part of human existence.
Would you like to understand and explain your behaviors and preferences or why you experience problems or feel shame? How would it feel to hear “you’re not broken, there is nothing wrong with who you are and what you like?" How would it feel to deconstruct old religious or societal beliefs that are negatively affecting you or your relationships? I can help

Relationships can be hard. Whether you’re dating someone or have been married for 50 years, every relationship has its ups and downs. You may have just discovered your partner cheated on you, or you’re merely trying to figure out how to make this relationship thing work. Maybe it feels like you barely recognize the person lying next to you in bed anymore and you feel guilty because the word “divorce” has crept into your mind.

You have made a vital step in confronting the issues that may have you feeling sad, anxious, fearful, abandoned and rejected, angry, or alone. My primary practice approach is eclectic, helping those who have experienced trauma after homicide, suicide, disaster/public emergency, racism, police/institutional violence/discrimination. You also may be experiencing adjustment issues post-incarceration, domestic violence, and racial/sexual/gender hate. What is most relevant is that you have chosen to take positive action toward growth, healing, and recovery from challenges that may have recently emerged or been battling for some time.

Sex Therapy
Who is sex therapy for?
Sex problems are common in relationships. Many people want a better sex life and want to feel loved and desired by their partner. It is difficult for couples to resolve sexual problems on their own because people often feel ashamed to talk about their sexual desires fearing they are not normal, when in fact a very broad range of preferences and behaviors are normal. A sex therapist can help clarify this and other matters.

Why do people need sex therapy?
Many people do not know how to talk about their erotic needs or their emotional needs, both of which are addressed in sex therapy. Couples often live with sexual difficulties for years before seeking help, and in that time, partners may experience so much disappointment and alienation that they may fear their problems mean they are incompatible. Once people experience disappointment, it is difficult to find resolution without help.

What happens in sex therapy?
People have many misconceptions about what takes place in sex therapy. First, it is a form of talk therapy in which partners discuss their sexual concerns; it does not involve touching or physical exploration of any kind. Sex therapy typically helps couples get comfortable talking to each other about sex so that, in the privacy of their home life, they can openly discuss their sexual desires and make decisions about what they want to do. Couples are typically assigned activities to do at home that build intimacy skills.

What kinds of problems do sex therapists treat?
Very often, partners differ in their degree of sexual desire and struggle over how often to have sex. Or they may have fights about porn use or have difficulty connecting sexually after one partner is unfaithful. Men may have problems with premature ejaculation. Women may find themselves struggling to become aroused or to achieve an orgasm. Sometimes partners feel like they have lost the sense of attraction to their partner. These are all common issues dealt with in sex therapy.
