I assist clients who are working through
trauma
, loss, difficult memories, and low self-worth.
How did I get here? At first you missed a couple of days of work, then you stopped showering, and now you don’t hang out with people you used to enjoy. Life hits hard whether it’s intrusive memories, the loss of a loved one, or a struggle with your own sense of self-worth. Sometimes it’s hard to even pinpoint why you feel the way you feel, you just can’t seem to move past it. If you’re sick of crawling back under the covers to hide from the world, or making endless excuses to avoid people, reach out.

While specializing in both sexual addiction recovery work and complex
trauma
, I also work with individual clients struggling with a variety of other issues like depression, anxiety, or relationship issues.
First of all, bravo for reaching out for help. The fact that you are doing a Google search for a therapist in your area is the first step to getting better, and it is a big one so congratulations on starting your journey! My counseling practice believes in the journey. This is why I named it "Wayfare Counseling". Wayfare is an Old English word that means "to go on a journey". This is what I believe counseling is all about. The journey is just as important as the recovery, and I would love to come alongside you in that process.

There is hope to navigate
trauma
and find healing and peace.
Trauma
comes in many ways and brings with it many difficult symptoms. Fear, worry, sadness, and a feeling that you can't cope are just a few. Others don't always understand you or know how to help. This is especially true for parents who want to help their children navigate traumatic experiences but feel helpless to know where to start. There is nothing more frightening than having a child or teen who is struggling with anxiety, depression, and/or suicidal thoughts. Teenagers often feel unheard and parents can feel helpless.

I believe in the power of helping clients change their thoughts in order to change their behaviors. Clients need ways to improve their lives and accomplish the things they want to do, and counseling/therapy achieves that. It is my goal as a clinician to allow clients to see and appreciate their progress instead of aiming for perfection.

. Counseling/Therapy is investment in quality of life. People seek help when frustrated, confused, overwhelmed. Does addiction (substance/behavior) control your life? Does a challenging relationship frustrate you? Are you tired of trying to change your partner? or trying to change yourself for your partner? Have you experienced painful loss? Do you frequently feel tense and uneasy? Does the life you live differ from the life you want?

When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.
How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.
What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.
Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
