I work with individuals struggling with anxiety, anger,
codependency
, communication, depression, and crises of faith issues and trauma.
It has been said that: "God uses our deepest pain as a launchpad for our highest calling". However, a lot of the times we become immobilized by the pains we have endured. My goal in counseling is to remind believers and non-believers that there is hope past the pain, shame, and doubt they are experiencing; through modalities of individual, couples, family and pre-marital counseling.Do not let shame and doubt rule over you any longer but instead gain insight and authenticity as you understand your Creator, your process and yourself more fully.

I help clients learn how to cope on a daily basis with; relationships, depression, anxiety,
codependency
, trauma, self esteem, spiritual trauma & LGBTQAI+ issues.
"Just so you know, my eyes don't see the person you used to be, I only see the person you are fighting to become". This defines the work I do daily with my clients. The willingness to face things you want to change, is all it takes. Fear is expected as change comes, however we can work on coping skills to diminish the fear and anxiety you have. I will support you with empathy and compassion along the pathway to healing. "Peace does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble or hard work. It means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart". Peace in your soul is Possible, let me help you.

My other areas of specialty include anger management,
codependency
, self-esteem, communication, relationship issues, & issues specific to the LGBTQI population.
Seeking counseling is a very personal decision. Finding the right provider can be the most important step in the healing process. I believe I have helped so many clients because I use an array of tools and methods which I tailor to a client's unique goals. My approach is to work hard to understand a client's perspective and values. Sometimes this means helping the client explore and discover what that is for themselves. I lead AND follow - I may prompt, encourage, and confront, but I follow a client's pace (willingness and readiness) to delve into the issues.

Although I specialize in these issues, I also have extensive experience with clients of all ages treating trauma, grief,
codependency
, and other mental health issues.
Evening sessions available! Accepting new clients! Most affordable rates in the area! Limited income-based (sliding scale) spots available. I do not have an "ideal" client. Instead, I strive to be the "ideal" therapist for each client. Every client presents with different problems, different goals, and different motivators. Therefore, it is my job as the therapist to meet each client where they are at and provide them with the services they need and deserve. The one thing that I believe all clients have in common is the desire to take action that will promote them to a higher level of functioning in their every day life.

Though vulnerability is often uncomfortable, nothing is as painful as feeling disconnected from the life you want to lead. I am a Certified Daring Way (TM) Facilitator and often integrate Brene Brown's work on shame-resiliency, vulnerability, belonging, self-compassion, and courage into therapy sessions. I am also a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist and have significant experience helping individuals and families work toward recovery from an eating disorder (and related issues).

First of all, bravo for reaching out for help. The fact that you are doing a Google search for a therapist in your area is the first step to getting better, and it is a big one so congratulations on starting your journey! My counseling practice believes in the journey. This is why I named it "Wayfare Counseling". Wayfare is an Old English word that means "to go on a journey". This is what I believe counseling is all about. The journey is just as important as the recovery, and I would love to come alongside you in that process.

Nearly all humans experience occasional difficulties that can interfere with their success or sense of well-being. Some need help with depression or anxiety. Perhaps the issues are surrounding parenting or an inability to regulate emotions in relation to a work concern. Possibly you and your mate just can't seem to get along anymore after several happy years together. Bottom line is YOU NEED HELP!

One of the first things I tell clients who struggle with mental health disorders or overwhelming stress is that in today's society, with all the turmoil and uncertainty we face, it is a natural and normal reaction to be struggling mentally. While there is still a large stigma towards mental health and therapy I believe a great way to combat this is by understanding that it is not weakness to seek help, it in fact takes great strength to reach out to someone and admit that we cannot do this on our own.

You find yourself stuck in the same negative cycles. You trust the wrong people and get into relationships that only leave you feeling manipulated, abused, and unsafe. They’ve taken away your power, your voice, and the weight of trauma has left you questioning your worth. You’ve tried reaching out to loved ones, connecting to your faith, and other means to address your concerns, but all those choices have failed. Your needs are not met, and you desperately desire support to make consistent, positive changes to succeed mentally, spiritually, and emotionally.

What therapy types help with codependency problems?
Both couples and family therapy and cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT) can help with the relationship difficulties referred to as codependency. Such problems typically include inappropriate feelings of responsibility for a loved one’s destructive behavior, irrational patterns of thinking about such behavior, and family interaction patterns in which the needs of one troubled member override the needs of others in a household.
What happens in therapy for codependency?
Spouses and family members learn and practice how to interact and support each other in a healthy way without sacrificing their own needs or well-being. They learn the limits of their responsibility for their loved ones and correct faulty patterns of thinking and feeling that underlie codependent behavior. Individuals may be encouraged to nurture an array of social relationships and to cultivate their own talents and interests so that they develop a healthy sense of self outside the family.
How does therapy help a person or couple overcome codependency?
Therapy helps people establish healthy ways of being in a relationship. Spouses and family members learn how to nurture and support one another without sacrificing their own needs or allowing the needs of one person to dominate the dynamic. Individuals learn how to say no and set boundaries, and how to maintain their own identity and self-esteem. Therapy helps people understand that they are not responsible for the feelings and actions of others. It also helps individuals deal with the turbulence that can come from living with a person suffering from such conditions as substance abuse and mental illness.
What is the goal of therapy for codependency?
One goal of therapy for codependency is to alleviate feelings of responsibility for and correct irrational patterns of thinking about loved ones whose behavioral problems override the needs of others in a household. Therapy helps people establish healthy boundaries of behavior and speak up for their own needs in a relationship. In addition, people learn how to maintain a healthy relationship, one in which both parties give and receive equally and are able to retain their own identity.
