Counseling has been defined as "helping others to help themselves". Our journey in life often takes unexpected and unwanted twists and turns. Sometimes a little help is all that's needed to navigate the obstacles and regain our path. It would be my honor to help you to live the life you desire. Help comes through an offer of a warm, inviting environment with a compassionate, nonjudgmental listener. My role is not to tell you what to do or what to think but to help and to guide. I would love the opportunity to talk with you to assist you on your personal journey.

I consider it a great honor to walk with you in your journey. I approach therapy and counseling through a trauma-informed, attachment based lens. Prior to pursuing a career in counseling, I spent 25 years in the field of physical therapy working with those suffering from physical pain. This previous experience in working with those suffering physically has given me insight into how our emotional and physical well-being are two sides of the same coin. Because of this experience, I strive to approach counseling from a holistic perspective paying close attention to the physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of each person.

Do you feel stuck in a pattern of undesired behaviors? Certified in EMDR therapy, my approach is to move from the oversimplification of behavioral plans/coping strategies to clients learning to lead their lives with purpose. This can be done by clients exploring parts of themselves that may seem powerless to undesired behaviors. Additionally, I look beyond diagnoses to focus on neurobiology and integration of emotional, mental, spiritual, and physical experiences.

I see therapy as a partnership—we’ll set goals that matter to you and adjust them as your needs change. My role is to give you support and tools so you can keep moving toward the life you want, even when things feel hard. I use different therapeutic modalities like CBT, Acceptance and Commitment therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing and Dialectical Behavior therapy (DBT) as well as other treatment models. I I would need to ask you more detailed questions to determine what could help you best. I would want to know generally how would feel different once you achieve your treatment goals.

The challenges and difficulties of life can cause a person to feel defeated, hurt, and overwhelmed. Having no one to understand the heartache, frustration, and worries is tiring. Sometimes the only way to get through life is to hide away in a safe space while struggling to make it through another day. That safe space has caused you to feel trapped and miserable in a dark place, wondering what your purpose for living is. You are tired of feeling judged and not heard when you have taken the risk to share your story with others. Instead, you just wish someone would stop and listen without judgement to your story and offer some hope.

I am here to be a tool for you! I want to help you get on your desired path, even if that means searching for what that path could be to help you thrive at life. Many of us have been given the idea that counseling is only for problems. Absolutely, counseling is a great tool for when problems do arise, but it can be used to keep the good going and maybe even spring forward to great. We are naturally talented at seeing problems. I want to help you to be reprogrammed to see what is going well and then to do more of that in your life. Let me know when you would like to get together to build from wherever you may currently find yourself.

Self Esteem Therapists
When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?
When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.

What are the signs of low self-esteem?
Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.

What causes low self-esteem?
Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.

How can therapy improve self-esteem?
Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
