Counseling has been defined as "helping others to help themselves". Our journey in life often takes unexpected and unwanted twists and turns. Sometimes a little help is all that's needed to navigate the obstacles and regain our path. It would be my honor to help you to live the life you desire. Help comes through an offer of a warm, inviting environment with a compassionate, nonjudgmental listener. My role is not to tell you what to do or what to think but to help and to guide. I would love the opportunity to talk with you to assist you on your personal journey.

I consider it a great honor to walk with you in your journey. I approach therapy and counseling through a trauma-informed, attachment based lens. Prior to pursuing a career in counseling, I spent 25 years in the field of physical therapy working with those suffering from physical pain. This previous experience in working with those suffering physically has given me insight into how our emotional and physical well-being are two sides of the same coin. Because of this experience, I strive to approach counseling from a holistic perspective paying close attention to the physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of each person.

I will focus on your needs throughout the process and will collaborate with you in partnership in order to establish the best framework to enable you to achieve your goals. When you are ready, we will begin this journey together.

I use EMDR, somatic techniques, EFT, and IFS parts work to help you move beyond insight and reconnect with the parts of yourself you’ve had to suppress to succeed or stay composed.
If you’re someone who’s used to staying strong, keeping it together, or performing under pressure, you might look fine on the outside while feeling overwhelmed or disconnected on the inside. I work with high-achieving adults, people who are disciplined, focused, or accustomed to pushing through stress, yet struggle to access their emotions, slow down, or feel grounded. My clients often come from structured, demanding, or competitive environments where emotional expression wasn’t encouraged. Over time, this can lead to burnout, anxiety, overthinking, or feeling out of touch with your body.

Adopting or fostering comes with many challenges. Families go into it excited about the child they will love and care for, and it is common to experience many challenges in loving a child from a hard place. Children placed for adoption or in foster care have experienced a great deal of loss. This leaves them dealing with pain on a deep level. Families often feel guilty or like they haven't been good parents if their child experiences attachment difficulties. But the truth is that it would be weird if they didn't based on their life experiences. These issues are complex and multi-layered, often involving the entire family system.

I am glad you are here! Do you find yourself overwhelmed, anxious or struggling to enjoy your everyday life. Have you experienced recent struggles with anger, grief or depression? You are not alone. Healing is possible. Often, our circumstances lead to frustrations we cannot work through alone. I believe that the central healing factor of effective therapy is a strong therapeutic connection or relationship between the client and the therapist. My goal is for us to work together to identify areas where growth and healing can take place.

The issues for my ideal client would be a client dealing with internal self conflict (intrusive thoughts, anxiety, depression, grief, meaninglessness) and interpersonal relationships. Their needs: learning to identify erroneous thought patterns, reframing those patterns and implementing new behavior associations. This client would want to better understand and manage themselves as well as develop and maintain healthy relationships.

My ideal client is someone who feels overwhelmed, disconnected, or weighed down by things they can’t always name—anxiety, old wounds, body image struggles, or the pressure of just getting through the day. They’re craving a space to feel seen, supported, and understood. They may not know exactly where to start, but they’re ready for change and want tools that feel practical and personal. They want a therapist who feels human, who listens without judgment, and who helps them move toward healing, growth, and feeling more like themselves again.

Who is emotionally focused therapy for?
Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.

Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?
People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.

What happens in emotionally focused therapy?
Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.

What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?
EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
