I am certified in EMDR.
Many difficulties come from not knowing better ways to respond. "Skills Training" - a major component of treatment - simply means discovering and incorporating different and more effective ways of responding. We only know what we've experienced, so new knowledge and insight can lead to a more enjoyable and productive life.

I am a certified sexual addiction therapist and hold a certification in EMDR.
I enjoy working with those impacted by sexual addiction (addict and victims), and survivors of sexual abuse. I have been researching and studying these topics for over 30 years. My certification in EMDR therapy, a highly effective treatment for negative experiences, trauma and PTSD, removes the excess-emotion of negative memories and trauma permanently.

I am trained in EMDR which is a specialized therapy used to treat trauma-related needs.
I specialize in working with adolescents, adults, and families. In my work with younger clients, I want their caregivers very involved in the counseling process. I utilize both play therapy and family systems techniques in my practice. For my individual adult clients, I work with them to change negative thoughts into healthier and more positive ones.

I have been trained in EMDR.
Therapists are often asked, "who is your ideal client?" Honestly if I could take away mental health issues I would. The more appropriate question would be "who would you like to work with?" I want progress not only in my own life and career, but progress for my clients so the person that I truly want to work with is someone who desires the same. Do we all feel like making progress every day? No. Ultimately I want someone who is ready to do the work regardless of what is hindering you. We can work on those hinderances together. I got you.

I have specialized training in EMDR and Intuitive Eating as well as years of experience working with addiction and codependency.
It may feel like you are holding everything together for everyone in your life or that you are taking care of everyone else while neglecting your own needs. It may feel like you are navigating life without purpose at times and need to find a direction. It may feel like the past takes over sometimes and it's difficult to stay in the here and now. Your life may look great on the outside, but something just feels off. It may feel like the "little" things are overwhelming and you can't figure out why. My ideal clients can relate to these statements, and I help them by finding the why and their purpose moving forward in life.

I use EMDR, parts/ego states work, and CBT mostly so you can have a holistic approach that includes body, emotions, and your intellect.
Are you worn out? Are you losing hope? Do you need someone in your corner? If so, you are probably feeling exhausted and overwhelmed, maybe even despairing. I work with adults who are seeking relief from these distressing emotions, and from sleepless nights, endless worry, isolation, and mood swings.

Who is EMDR for?
EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?
People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?
First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?
First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
