Mēgan specializes in helping High Achieving Black Women (HABW™) set boundaries in their relationships and ask for what they need.
I offer no magic solutions; you will only get out of therapy what you are willing to put in it. Relationships take work, and you must have a willingness to look at yourself honestly in the process of creating a solution. I will help guide you in learning ways to communicate again and find common languages in your relationships. I use my skills to help you understand yourself, fill gaps in relationships, fill gaps that feel like they will never heal, and help heal wounds. I pride myself on telling my clients the truth and motivating them to choose boundaries that better their lives. I don't take sides and tell you like it is.

Through the combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy and a Strengths Based Approach, I serve African American and minority youth & young adults ages 16-30.
Hi There! I know that the process of finding the right therapist can seem exhausting, and sometimes confusing- but I am here to help and ease some of that confusion as you step into the world of therapy. If you think about two needs that connect us all to each other- is that we want to know that we are heard, and that we matter. Regardless of our background or characteristics, the desire to feel heard and understood is universal. My goal as a therapist is to help meet these needs for you through our work together. I aim to meet you where you are at in your healing journey, and see you for who you are and your unique needs.

Well, hello beautiful people! I aim to help black women who are struggling with anxiety, depression, and/or spirituality. From the time we are born, we are exposed to many unpleasant and even unexplainable circumstances that leave us desperately looking for answers. Unfortunately, as black women the “lack” can result in us dealing with our reality in a number of devastating ways. There is an amount of deception in MANY forms in our society that is cultivated and we fall victim to; some for a short period, and some all of our lives.

Hey Loves! I'm a Therapist who specializes in helping black women build and maintain healthy, long-lasting relationships. I believe that we as black women have the ability and the strength to overcome the hurt and trauma that has been placed on us. We are mothers, sisters, wives, aunties, teachers, and caretakers; placing others' needs above our own, but failing to ensure that our cup is full before pouring into others.

I help pre-teens, adolescents, young women (18-25 years-old), and mother-daughter duos with the one thing that never changes in life—change. With change, come challenges we may or may not be prepared for, especially dealing with struggles only young and underrepresented populations can understand. However, I specialize in multicultural counseling specifically for Black and/or Indigenous girls & women with their healing, because I recognize and understand their needs, which is often unaddressed and misunderstood. As a Black/Indigenous woman, I bring a different yet familiar prospective, while you heal and seek solutions with me.

As I work with clients, I become focused on not only helping them to achieve their goals, but to help them to see the good that was inside of them the moment they scheduled their first session. My "ideal" client is one who is willing explore their strengths, as we uncover the reason why they decided to seek counseling.

I align best with adult men and women seeking support to help with the management of mental health symptoms or challenges. I assist individuals who are self-motivated, open, and curious to explore the "why's" of your life that may keep you feeling "stuck", "lost", or not so great about the trajectory of your life or things. I am licensed to practice in the states of Texas and Colorado and I would be honored if you allowed me to walk alongside you as you walk your journey back to you. I also offer personal development consulting/coaching to adults not seeking therapy services. Simply Thrive and Be well.

Well hello, and welcome to step one of the therapeutic process - finding a therapist. Take a deep breath, and trust your gut. In our work, our goal is to enable clients to live in the here-and-now, take notice of their own experiences, and harness the power that already resides inside in order to create change and live happier, healthier lives. Reviive believes life is about two things: loving and learning, and through our work together clients will be encouraged to reveal and learn from what was or has been, in order to heal and love what is.

Life's challenges can be devastating; however they do not have to be allowed to destroy. You cannot change past experiences but through therapy, you can choose to change the impact and heal. Your time in therapy can be empowering, challenging and fulfilling. The effort you put into your desired change equals the results you will receive.

As the world continues to change and evolve, we are all faced with the challenge of how to cope with the effects of said change. Since we are all unique in our experiences, our stories are written in a voice as unique as we are. Our stories continue to be written and rewritten with each and every experience that comes our way. While our stories are being written, we deserve a space to process the experiences and challenges, that come our way.

Black and African American Therapists

As an African American, why might I wish to see a therapist who is African American?

African American clients may seek out African American therapists for several reasons, foremost being a sense of cultural understanding and the possibility of shared experiences. Cultural sensitivity and context on the part of the therapist may make it easier to form a therapeutic alliance and to focus on the work of therapy without the need to explain or educate a therapist on cultural matters. It may also be empowering to work with a therapist who shares one’s racial or ethnic background. It is important to note that a therapist who demonstrates cultural sensitivity can be highly effective even if they do not share a client’s background or race.

Can clients benefit from working with a therapist who shares their race or ethnicity?

Yes, having a therapist who shares a client’s race or ethnicity is often valuable, especially if it fosters a strong therapeutic alliance between the two. While training, qualifications, and experience are always important, a strong alliance between client and therapist is a major contributor to therapeutic effectiveness. An alliance is likely to be strengthened with a therapist who has an understanding of a client’s background and perhaps also shared life experiences. It should be noted that many clients form a strong bond with their therapist regardless of their race or ethnicity. This is a personal decision, and it depends on the therapist, the client, and the connection between the two.

How might I inquire about a therapist’s experience working with African American clients?

Clients can ask therapists directly about their experience working with clients of diverse backgrounds, including with African American individuals. You may wish to inquire whether a therapist has undertaken training in cultural competence broadly, and how specifically they would ensure that their approach is sensitive to the needs of African American clients. Therapy involves honesty and trust, so it’s best for clients to share concerns about their therapist’s cultural competence at the outset. And a good clinician who is nonetheless not the right fit for you is often happy to make referrals based on the concerns you articulate.

Why is it important for a therapist to be culturally sensitive?

It’s important for a therapist to be culturally sensitive because everyone comes to therapy with a unique background and set of experiences. Being aware of culture and cultural differences between people is important for understanding clients, as is coming to therapy with an open mind, recognizing that the therapist doesn’t necessarily understand everything and that the client can help guide the way.

Who is included in Psychology Today's directory of Black therapists?

The directory of Black therapists includes therapists who have self-identified their ethnicity in their profiles. Psychology Today uses this information to assist clients in finding a therapist who can provide a cultural match. However, not all therapists choose to disclose their ethnicity in their profile, and they may not appear in search results for this reason. In situations where the number of therapists who have identified as Black is limited, the directory will also show therapists who have undergone specific multicultural training or have extensive experience working with clients from relevant cultural backgrounds.
