As a psychologist, I believe that good therapy builds upon a trusting, working relationship between therapist and client. For me, each client is a unique individual with his or her own special needs, feelings and life experiences. Of most importance is that my clients see me as a professional who listens with respect and empathy to what he or she tells me. My goal is to work collaboratively with all clients to help them examine and modify self-defeting beliefs and behaviors that prevent healthy and productive funcitoning in family, social and work or school settings.

Are you feeling isolated or having trouble adjusting after a significant life change or having difficulty connecting with loved ones? Is a traumatic event plaguing you? I have specialized training in working with couples, relationship issues, first responders, teachers, people with disabilities, and new or expecting mothers. People are not "one size fits all," which is why I use several modalities during therapy to customize treatment for every client. Clients can begin to look at things from a new perspective and create lasting change. Let's get "unstuck" by working together!

As a Black, professional woman, you’re tired of carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders. The way others see it, you have a successful career and multiple achievements, but part of you feels misunderstood, unseen, and unheard. Past hurts linger and doubts whisper in your mind, making it hard for you to trust fully. You’re exhausted from pretending everything is okay. You long for a space where you can be yourself without being judged or feeling the need to perform. You yearn for deeper connections, but the fear of vulnerability, of getting hurt again, creates a wall around your heart, making it difficult to truly connect.

Are you finding it hard to navigate everyday life? Are your relationships suffering? Are you simply exhausted? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, please know you CAN live a different life. Anxiety, depression, grief/loss, trauma, and many other issues are challenging. Handling these issues on your own may seem impossible. You do not have to go it alone when counseling is available. As a Black/African American therapist, I bring an inclusive approach to my work with all kinds of individuals, couples, and families.

I have much experience in working with people in our black and brown communities but I am open to all races.
I grew up in Jersey City, New Jersey, specifically on " The Hill". Growing up in an urban environment in the late 80's and early 90's, I experienced so much trauma. I was blessed with skills and great people around me that helped me to navigate the trauma, and use it as fuel for growth. Now, as a therapist, I find great fulfillment in returning the powers that the universe gave me. I am open minded and believe that this is one my callings in life. I am excited to work with clients who want to take a step in the right direction towards growth.

We're committed to providing high-quality, culturally relevant mental health services to Black and communities of Color.
You don't want to feel beat down, let down, depressed, overwhelmed, out of control, broken or ashamed. But the daily experience of your life being undervalued by society on top of the difficulties of work, relationships, and personal struggles just seems like too much. You feel like relationships won't work, it's impossible to stop circumstances from getting you down, and you can't win for losing. You doubt who you really are. You question the strength within you, the courage you were born with, and the wisdom from those before you.

I’m a licensed therapist in New Jersey, and I help Black women move past anxiety, stress, and fear to live their lives on their own terms.
Are you overwhelmed by the pressures of work and the responsibilities of your life? Do you ever struggle to complete a task or project because you’ve procrastinated or felt consumed by making sure that you’ve done it perfectly? Have you ever awakened in the morning completely exhausted because you spent most of the night overthinking all of the worries in your life? When you’ve struggled with stress and high-functioning anxiety for most of your life and still managed to achieve some measure of success, it can be hard to know when it’s time to reach out for support. You should know that your life does not have to be this way.

Black and African American Therapists

As an African American, why might I wish to see a therapist who is African American?

African American clients may seek out African American therapists for several reasons, foremost being a sense of cultural understanding and the possibility of shared experiences. Cultural sensitivity and context on the part of the therapist may make it easier to form a therapeutic alliance and to focus on the work of therapy without the need to explain or educate a therapist on cultural matters. It may also be empowering to work with a therapist who shares one’s racial or ethnic background. It is important to note that a therapist who demonstrates cultural sensitivity can be highly effective even if they do not share a client’s background or race.

Can clients benefit from working with a therapist who shares their race or ethnicity?

Yes, having a therapist who shares a client’s race or ethnicity is often valuable, especially if it fosters a strong therapeutic alliance between the two. While training, qualifications, and experience are always important, a strong alliance between client and therapist is a major contributor to therapeutic effectiveness. An alliance is likely to be strengthened with a therapist who has an understanding of a client’s background and perhaps also shared life experiences. It should be noted that many clients form a strong bond with their therapist regardless of their race or ethnicity. This is a personal decision, and it depends on the therapist, the client, and the connection between the two.

How might I inquire about a therapist’s experience working with African American clients?

Clients can ask therapists directly about their experience working with clients of diverse backgrounds, including with African American individuals. You may wish to inquire whether a therapist has undertaken training in cultural competence broadly, and how specifically they would ensure that their approach is sensitive to the needs of African American clients. Therapy involves honesty and trust, so it’s best for clients to share concerns about their therapist’s cultural competence at the outset. And a good clinician who is nonetheless not the right fit for you is often happy to make referrals based on the concerns you articulate.

Why is it important for a therapist to be culturally sensitive?

It’s important for a therapist to be culturally sensitive because everyone comes to therapy with a unique background and set of experiences. Being aware of culture and cultural differences between people is important for understanding clients, as is coming to therapy with an open mind, recognizing that the therapist doesn’t necessarily understand everything and that the client can help guide the way.

Who is included in Psychology Today's directory of Black therapists?

The directory of Black therapists includes therapists who have self-identified their ethnicity in their profiles. Psychology Today uses this information to assist clients in finding a therapist who can provide a cultural match. However, not all therapists choose to disclose their ethnicity in their profile, and they may not appear in search results for this reason. In situations where the number of therapists who have identified as Black is limited, the directory will also show therapists who have undergone specific multicultural training or have extensive experience working with clients from relevant cultural backgrounds.
