I also have subject matter expertise in Christian-, criminal justice-, and African American-related issues.
Someone once said, "The decision to ask for help is not easy and requires courage." Sometimes it is both challenging and absolutely terrifying to invite a perfect stranger into one's space that doesn't appear to be as "put together" as we would like, especially when what has one "falling apart" is substance use. I am of the belief that with a focused mind, determined spirit, and faith, there is no trip DOWN you can't fall UP from.

I know that talking about mental health within the Black community and communities of color can be challenging.
My name is Dr. Vanessa Freeman and I am a licensed psychologist with an interest in serving the Black community, communities of color, and any individuals willing to address their multicultural identities in therapy. I believe that therapy has the power to help individuals unlock, access, and/or reconnect to their authentic selves. It is through this connection to our authentic selves that we can live our lives to the fullest and support those around us. Making the decision to begin therapy can be a challenging and scary one and I work with clients to honor that feeling and figure out the best way to use the time we have together.

I am currently serving two underserved populations, the African-American and LGBT communities.
I believe that one of the ways in which self-awareness is achieved is through the sharing of one's story. Therefore, I strive diligently to create a safe space for one to share both the beauty and the brokenness of one's story with authenticity, genuineness, and integrity. When appropriate, I infuse spirituality and religion into my therapeutic practice; thus enabling my clients to articulate their feelings of dis-ease within the context of their faith. I have found this approach to be particularly effective in working with populations marginalized because of race, gender, or sexual orientation.

Navigating love, relationships, and trying to feel good about yourself as a Black woman, can be hard.
Superwoman, is it time for a change but you need some help? Do you feel like you just keep making the same bad relationship choices over and over again? Having trouble connecting with your partner intimately or sexually because something feels off? Are you feeling stuck or like things are getting worse? Maybe you're feeling empty or you just don't want to do anything? It can feel like a heavy load to bear, when you have all these questions running through your mind, but you have to be strong when you really are just TIRED, panicky, sad, & hopeless. I understand what you're going through.

Many of us go through life suffering in silence. We may feel that even when we share with people we trust, it is still hard to find relief. This last year of the pandemic may have made these challenges even harder to manage, while also bringing on more difficult experiences. This may feel like anxiety, grief, shame, or intense sadness, and may be leaving you feeling lost, exhausted, overwhelmed, unfulfilled, and unhappy. In this practice we are committed to creating a safe, supportive, non-judgmental space where you can bring your full self with all of your challenges, and engage in the journey to relief and healing.
