I am honored to advocate support and empower children and their families to over come life’s difficulties. I use a person-centered approach meeting individual where they are. I strongly emphasis on co-creating an environment where clients feel safe, while challenged to become the best versions of themselves. Many of us fall within the spectrum of dealing with challenges by confronting them head on or by simply avoiding it altogether, but I’m here to help establish a healthy balance pointing out behaviors that are in your control and understanding that it’s okay to not always be okay.

You have already taken the first step by looking into therapy, and I am so glad you're here! Whether this is your first time looking into therapy or you are jumping back in, I would be honored to work with you. Life's obstacles can create a tangled web of emotions: fear, stress, frustration, despair, and more. Whether it's anxiety, depression, trauma, work-life balance, or exploring our identity- sometimes, we need a supportive space to help us navigate these challenges and the emotions that come with them. Therapy provides that safe environment so we can grow from those challenges using evidence-based interventions.

Asking for help can be hard and you’re brave to be here, taking the first step. I believe that you are the expert of your life and I want to honor that. My goal is to create a welcoming space that allows you to safely process your feelings and learn more about who you are. Some issues we may focus on include the death of a loved one, trauma, anxiety, and/or parenting support. I have served people across the lifespan; meeting children, adolescents, and adults where they are in their journey. As an EMDR Certified Therapist together we can process feelings, memories, and trauma that may be too difficult to manage alone.

Easing the stigma of mental health and therapy is a worldwide effort that is beginning with me. Because of stigmas related to our mental health individuals avoid seeking the help they need to address and resolve their mental health concerns and I want to change that. My office is a judgement free zone and I believe no one knows you better than you. I work with both adolescents and adults who may dealing with a wide variety of matters which may include (but not limited to) trauma, anxiety and depression.

Have you been feeling a little down lately? Anxious, frustrated, and/or depressed about a current or past situation? As if you’ve lost sight of the person, you are or want to be. As we grow though life, we can expect challenges and changes. However, our perspective of those situations can dictate our emotional or behavioral responses. Let's begin to move forward, step by step. Let's partner together. First, we will build a trusting therapeutic relationship, then I will cultivate a safe space of understanding, healing, and growth, through evidence-based practices in hopes of you becoming the best version of yourself.

Trauma doesn’t often show it's effects immediately or plainly. It is often hidden in patterns of sleepless nights, negative thinking, anxious worry, and feelings of despair and emptiness. It casts a long shadow that begins to de-color every aspect of life. Activities that were previously enjoyed are scheduled less often. You've noticed not only effects but that it has changed who you are. You’ve noticed that the way you feel about the world & others is very different. The thoughts you have about yourself are no better. And every part of life is categorized by whether it happened “before”. “Before the accident, before the bullying".

We all have different seasons in our lives where we may feel a pull or a need for change and growth. My hope is to help those on their individual journeys find a place that feels good for them and their families. I believe that everyone deserves to feel safe, heard and validated and thus I provide that in my therapy room, and help other family members develop that for one another.

I believe while therapists may be the experts of therapy, clients are the experts of themselves. Part of what this means is that you are responsible for your energy and direction of the treatment process. I will help you develop and facilitate your goals, and then you will be the one responsible for doing the work. This could mean there is work to be done between sessions, collaboration with other outside people, or opportunities to embrace difficult moments. Therapy is not about a “fix.” It is about healing and growth, both of which take time and effort. I believe most of you are hurting now. I honor and revere that.

If you are reading this then I invite you to take a moment to appreciate what you have done. Despite the pain you are in, you have taken an important step toward change. Those whom I work with all have one thing in common—pain. Regardless of its form, nervousness, sadness, substance misuse, difficult thoughts, and/or traumatic memories, attempting to cope with this pain has led to more suffering. There now exists a gap between the life they are living and the one they desire. Life has become about avoiding, numbing, or distracting the pain away. Does this sound like you? If so, know this—you’re not broken, you’re stuck.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Charlotte?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
