I am a registered nurse and licensed professional counselor. I am multi-dimensional in the services I provide. I see children, adolescents, individuals, couples, and families. I started my career working with and teaching children who were not psychologically ready to move from kindergarten to first grade. My love for helping people inspired me to go back to school and pursue a nursing degree. After moving to Connecticut, I worked as a psych nurse at Waterbury Hospital at Merriman Hall for 6 years. This was a locked unit and it was here that I learned all the family therapy methodology.

Sometimes it can feel as if our thoughts are overtaking us, sending us down a negative spiral. In these moments it can be difficult to think clearly, feel connected to our bodies, or even to take a deep breath. We start to panic, realizing that we are spiraling downwards, which often leads to more panic. This negative spiral does not just live in our minds, but also impacts our everyday lives; we can experience difficulty sleeping, managing stress, balancing work and leisure, changed eating habits and withdrawal from social activities, among other things. Escaping this cycle might feel impossible, but it does not need to be.

My name is Randy Carrin, Psy.D. I tailor my psychological treatment to the particular needs of my patients, and to specific therapeutic aims. I specialize in a cognitive-behavioral approach to successfully treat a multitude of psychological problems. Among these are anxiety and stress-related disorders; depressive disorders; pain-related disorders; chronic illness; post-traumatic stress; relationship difficulties; grief, loss and bereavement; HIV and AIDS; sexual difficulties; adoption-related issues; and the emotional upheaval associated with infertility. While I provide individual, couples and family work for all people, my special interest is to support minority populations. My primary expertise is providing counseling and supportive services for the LGBTQIA+ community. As human beings, we all struggle with feelings of not being good enough, important enough, lovable or able to love. These feelings embed themselves very early in life producing defense mechanisms that, although no longer needed, continue to operate below the surface; wreaking havoc on life, relationships and personal success.
