Murray Kramer has been a holistic psychotherapist for over 30 years. He graduated with a B.A. in Psychology from City College of New York in 1967. He went on to study Folklore and Folklife at the University of Pennsylvania, and received an M.A. in 1970. He then became intensively involved Zen meditation, and was in residence in Zen centers for 17 years. His approach to working with children, adolescents, adults and families, is to start with where the individual is, and to bring to bear psychodynamic principles, within a supportive, open space encouraging insight and healing.

Sometimes our lives are stable; however, there are times where we are suddenly confronted with traumatic experiences or losses, such as health problems (dx. of cancer or terminal illnesses), the death of a loved one, separation of the family, loss of work, problems with our children, or academic struggles. These situations can make us feel unsure of our own capacities and emotional strengths which can lead to increased vulnerability, and can cause us to start experiencing high levels of depression and anxiety, or other emotional pain/fears.

We, as human beings, have our habitual way to think, feel, and behave which may not always help us cope well. We may feel stuck in the past, fearful for the unknown future, and not being able to be present in the moment. We are not able to change the past and we cannot live in the future because future is delusional and non-existent. The present is the only time that we can do something to make a change and feel better. We do not need to deal with a struggle once we stop fighting against it and begin to practice acceptance and let go of the attachment to our habitual pattern so as to respond with a mindful and non-judgmental mind.
