I draw on traditional approaches to therapy like DBT, CBT, and ACT and I have completed additional trainings in EMDR, AEDP, IFS, Reiki, and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy.
As humans we crave connection: to be known and deeply loved. But sometimes we may feel like there are parts of us that aren't acceptable or loveable. We may learn to be sensitive to other people's signals, discerning what we need to do so that they'll love and accept us. Sometimes, we get so good at it that we don't even realize we’re doing it anymore. In the safety of therapy, I invite you to explore your full human experience. We will shine a light on the hidden places that you may not have been allowed to explore. We’ll acknowledge the barriers you have faced along the way while empowering you to move toward your fullest self.

I’m a licensed psychologist who works with individuals, couples, and siblings. In the past 19 years, I’ve helped clients with a wide variety of issues, but I specialize in working with those who have experienced trauma in their lives. I have a particular interest in supporting people who endured trauma or neglect as children, which can manifest in adulthood as difficulties with relationships, issues with self-worth, and feelings of responsibility for everyone and everything. I primarily approach counseling through an insight-oriented lens, attempting to help clients uncover core, underlying issues that can lead to true healing.

I specialize in helping men who struggle with isolation, feelings of anxiety and depression, blocks to intimacy, addiction to pornography, lack of male friends, a feeling of being lost or without a deep sense of purpose, or feeling numb and disconnected from life. As men, we are socialized to keep everything to ourselves, which makes it hard for us to admit when we're lonely and hurting and in need of support. Many of us grew up with fathers that were either absent, abusive, or detached from us emotionally, leaving us without a respectable model of masculinity and without much direction in life.

Specializing in depression and anxiety, I intend to help people who experience a range of life stressors, anxieties, traumas, behavioral issues, mental illness, and other emotional disturbances/barriers. We will collaborate to create a plan for addressing these issues in a way that helps you get your life back. I love my work and am in awe of the individuals I work with who courageously address the hurts in their life that prevent them from living more fully. It maybe a crisis in a relationship, ongoing anxiety or depression, a painful trauma, or an inner sense that things are just not right. Together we pay attention to these feelings, enabling them to be talked about, more fully experienced and then understood. This transformative process can restore joy and resilience in life, as well as improve the capacity to care about oneself and be in relationship with others.

I have training in Internal Family Systems, Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy, and Mindful Self-Compassion, and pull from these modalities and others to meet your unique needs.
You want to live with more ease, confidence and vitality despite the circumstances of your life. You may be facing a major change or perhaps you feel stuck and like you're just going through the motions. Times of transition can feel scary, but they are also invitations for transformation. I believe we all have an inherent capacity for healing. However, sometimes we need help uncovering our inner wholeness. This is where therapy comes in.

We all struggle at times in our lives. Perhaps the root of that suffering is clear: a loss, a trauma, a life transition, or an illness. Sometimes the suffering is known; we know we feel anxious or depressed, but we are unsure of the cause. Perhaps we know in our hearts we are repeating patterns in relationships, work, behaviors or lifestyle that no longer serve us, yet we can't quite get unstuck. As a psychotherapist I guide my clients in a collaborative way to a place of connection, understanding, integration and growth.

AEDP Therapists

Who is AEDP therapy for?

Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP) is for adults who have experienced emotional pain in the past that, because it has not been adequately addressed and processed, interferes with current functioning. The problems might manifest in a number of different ways, from excessive anger to relationship difficulties to PTSD to eating disorders, poor self-esteem, and depression. They may also be accompanied by physiological symptoms. AEDP helps people accept and digest challenging emotional experiences.

Why do people need AEDP?

People need AEDP as a way to manage distressing emotions—including anger, shame, and guilt—that in some way hamper the ability to function and form satisfying relationships in the present. The therapist-client relationship is believed to provide corrective emotional and relational experiences that facilitate positive changes in brain function, forge pathways for processing traumatic experiences, and allow resolution of emotional pain.

What happens in AEDP therapy?

Once individuals have established a strong bond with the AEDP therapist and the therapist has established a safe and secure environment, clients are encouraged to explore their most painful emotional experiences. They may be asked to pay attention to disquieting body sensations as well as to psychological discomfort. Individuals learn how to process emotions, rather than avoid them. Through the strength of the therapist-client bond, each session is intended to provide a powerful positive experience for individuals, enabling growth.

What problems does AEDP treat?

AEDP is intended to treat the unprocessed emotional pain caused by earlier distressing experiences, which commonly includes behavioral avoidance of current situations and experiences for fear that they will reactivate painful feelings. Emotional pain and avoidant behavior play a role in a wide array of mental health conditions, which is why AEDP is applied to the treatment of a range of disorders including depression, anxiety, PTSD, relationship difficulties, and eating disorders.
