The modalities that I find most helpful in the healing process are Internal Family Systems (IFS), Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT), and Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP).
I am a licensed therapist who works with individuals and couples of all ages and various presenting concerns. I work with individuals with mental health challenges, addictive behavior, or life-transitional issues (e.g. beginning high school/college, launching into adulthood, managing relationships, grief/loss, etc.). I help couples get to a place of connection where each partner feels heard, understood, and loved by the other. No matter what circumstances led us to where we are today, I believe that we all have the potential to be happy and content.

I am experienced in TF-CBT, Motivational Interviewing, and am level 1 trained in AEDP.
I have over a decade of experience in the field, focusing primarily on an approach called harm reduction. Harm Reduction is a grassroots movement that started among people who were at risk for HIV and HepC (queer people, people who use drugs, sex workers). This approach impacts the work I do with all people. It is an approach to behavioral change that emphasizes meeting you where you are without judgement while moving you towards your goals. My work is also trauma informed, works with your mind and body, relational, and informed by social justice and systems of power, privilege, and oppression.

My approach to therapy, Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy, places a premium on establishing a safe, supportive and compassionate relationship that brings out the best in each client.
Hello and welcome! Do you feel stuck - maybe in a difficult relationship with someone important or in a complicated relationship with yourself? Does it seem as if you will never become unstuck? Are anxiety, depression, self-defeating behavior or relationship issues standing between you and your happiness or personal goals? My aim is to help you begin healing as quickly as possible, even when the issues are long-standing. Together, we will explore the present and seek out transformational processes, rather than focus on the past or simply relive old wounds as a more traditional approach might.

You might be carrying the weight of so many untold stories and unfulfilled dreams within you, buried beneath years of struggle. You might be moving through life, feeling so fundamentally different, flawed, and alone at times. You might be wondering, "When can I finally breathe easier?" I see you, and I'm here. I get that life is hard. I have experienced the many sharp edges of life as well. And deciding to come to therapy is an act of courage. Meeting someone that you don’t know and sharing your hidden places is uncomfortable. From the get go, I want therapy to feel welcoming, real and a place where you can fully exhale. I look to create a safe and compassionate space where you will be seen and accepted for who you fully are. For my individuals and couples, I look to move you out of the negative cycles and into a place where you can trust yourself or each other again.

Are you interested in disentangling from longstanding patterns or opening up to what's next in your life? In my therapy practice, I use a supportive yet challenging stance to help people gain new perspective and learn strategies to allow them to have their temperament and strengths work for them, rather than against them. I aim to work with clients to create an engaged, dynamic therapy experience that can allow people to comfortably explore and deepen their understanding of thoughts, behaviors and feelings and disentangle from habits and thoughts that get in the way of experiencing life and relationships fully.

As an EMDR consultant, I enjoy using EMDR therapy to help individuals identify and process memories which cause nightmares, stress and negative self beliefs. By using an adjunctive and/or brief treatment model, I work with clients to select which specific target memories to work with for EMDR therapy. I propose working with a brief treatment model, selecting 1-2 memories to process in a fixed number of sessions ranging from 4-12 to focus in on clearing a negative experience and building resources to use in future scenarios. By screening and planning together, this approach gives a focused experience in how EMDR treatment works.

I bring a nonjudgemental, warm presence to therapy, helping you to move through suffering and heal from difficult experiences. I strongly believe that each of us is capable of more than just “getting by,” even if we sometimes struggle to access a sense of wholeness, contentment, or connection in life. Allowing ourselves to hope for a better experience, a better life, takes courage. However, I firmly believe that every human has the innate capacity to move through anxiety, depression, trauma, and dis-ease into spaces of freedom and joy.

AEDP Therapists

Who is AEDP therapy for?

Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP) is for adults who have experienced emotional pain in the past that, because it has not been adequately addressed and processed, interferes with current functioning. The problems might manifest in a number of different ways, from excessive anger to relationship difficulties to PTSD to eating disorders, poor self-esteem, and depression. They may also be accompanied by physiological symptoms. AEDP helps people accept and digest challenging emotional experiences.

Why do people need AEDP?

People need AEDP as a way to manage distressing emotions—including anger, shame, and guilt—that in some way hamper the ability to function and form satisfying relationships in the present. The therapist-client relationship is believed to provide corrective emotional and relational experiences that facilitate positive changes in brain function, forge pathways for processing traumatic experiences, and allow resolution of emotional pain.

What happens in AEDP therapy?

Once individuals have established a strong bond with the AEDP therapist and the therapist has established a safe and secure environment, clients are encouraged to explore their most painful emotional experiences. They may be asked to pay attention to disquieting body sensations as well as to psychological discomfort. Individuals learn how to process emotions, rather than avoid them. Through the strength of the therapist-client bond, each session is intended to provide a powerful positive experience for individuals, enabling growth.

What problems does AEDP treat?

AEDP is intended to treat the unprocessed emotional pain caused by earlier distressing experiences, which commonly includes behavioral avoidance of current situations and experiences for fear that they will reactivate painful feelings. Emotional pain and avoidant behavior play a role in a wide array of mental health conditions, which is why AEDP is applied to the treatment of a range of disorders including depression, anxiety, PTSD, relationship difficulties, and eating disorders.
