Shame, anxiety, overwhelming stress and relationship difficulties can disrupt our ability to live a mindful and conscious life. Working with adults and adolescents to promote acceptance, empathy and compassion is my primary interest and the approach I take in therapy. I also have experience and a passion for working with clients who are struggling with Eating Disorders and body image issues. I feel that the energy between therapist and client is the first step in healing emotional wounds and promoting positive changes.

My clients often find themselves caught in negative communication patterns, struggling with recent emotional injuries or a perceived breach of trust in their relationship. Despite being smart, capable and emotionally intelligent, they find themselves trapped in communication patterns that leave them feeling unheard and frustrated. They struggle to break free from these cycles that leave them feeling demoralized and long for a deeper, more fulfilling connection with their partner.

My approach is rooted in evidence-based practices that draw from various modalities including AEDP (Level I) and CBT.
Sometimes we all need a little support. Whether you’re struggling with work, navigating personal issues, going through a break up, or dealing with a past trauma—you are not alone. For many, it helps to talk with a professional to get a new perspective. If you’re new to therapy, my practice is a welcoming safe space for anyone who wants to “get un-stuck,” (whatever that may mean for you).

My area of focus is Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy, a non-pathologizing, healing-oriented treatment modality.
Maybe you are stuck in patterns that do not serve you. Maybe experiences and relationships that should give you pleasure leave you wanting. Or find yourself ruminating about the past or worrying about the future rather than living expansively, now. While many people can identify "the problem": alcohol and drugs; the death of a loved one; the end of a marriage, etc. Sometimes our inability to live fully confuses us. Together we can look at what is getting in the way. As a guide and companion I can help you heal past wounds and open to the joy and possibilities your life has to offer.

My typical clients suffer from shame and perfectionism, preventing living fulfilling lives. When stuck in shame, people may question if they're “good enough” in multiple areas of their lives, which creates a cycle of shame that is difficult to get out of alone. I specialize in areas of insecure attachment, attachment/family trauma, CPTSD, grief and loss, sex and gender, obsession/rumination, and anxiety. I am trained in Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) and am certified in EMDR.

AEDP Therapists

Who is AEDP therapy for?

Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP) is for adults who have experienced emotional pain in the past that, because it has not been adequately addressed and processed, interferes with current functioning. The problems might manifest in a number of different ways, from excessive anger to relationship difficulties to PTSD to eating disorders, poor self-esteem, and depression. They may also be accompanied by physiological symptoms. AEDP helps people accept and digest challenging emotional experiences.

Why do people need AEDP?

People need AEDP as a way to manage distressing emotions—including anger, shame, and guilt—that in some way hamper the ability to function and form satisfying relationships in the present. The therapist-client relationship is believed to provide corrective emotional and relational experiences that facilitate positive changes in brain function, forge pathways for processing traumatic experiences, and allow resolution of emotional pain.

What happens in AEDP therapy?

Once individuals have established a strong bond with the AEDP therapist and the therapist has established a safe and secure environment, clients are encouraged to explore their most painful emotional experiences. They may be asked to pay attention to disquieting body sensations as well as to psychological discomfort. Individuals learn how to process emotions, rather than avoid them. Through the strength of the therapist-client bond, each session is intended to provide a powerful positive experience for individuals, enabling growth.

What problems does AEDP treat?

AEDP is intended to treat the unprocessed emotional pain caused by earlier distressing experiences, which commonly includes behavioral avoidance of current situations and experiences for fear that they will reactivate painful feelings. Emotional pain and avoidant behavior play a role in a wide array of mental health conditions, which is why AEDP is applied to the treatment of a range of disorders including depression, anxiety, PTSD, relationship difficulties, and eating disorders.
