I have found through 21 years of counseling in a variety of settings that individual therapy is my niche. I'm particularly well-suited for working with adults individually, with a host of presenting issues including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, panic attacks, grief, PTSD, work stress, and adjustment to various life stressors.

I am blessed to study with the best - I studied family systems work with Monica McGoldrick MSW and learned EMDR in 1990 from Dr. Shapiro herself. I have been a senior facilitator for the EMDR Institute and am a consultant for therapists in training. Today I practice family systems, utilizing the genogram - with EMDR as the cornerstone - along with mindfullness and spirituality. I have four children who have taught me about autism, dyslexia, adoption, and assumptions. They are my greatest teachers! I am married to Dr. John Schaut, a master EMDR practioner who works with our combat veterans.

I have been in the mental health/ counseling field for over 12 years, having worked in community and out­patient settings with AODA and mental health clients. I also have training in AODA, anger management, and trauma informed care. I work with adolescents, individuals, and families. I also work with clients that are sexual abuse survivors, trauma, depression, anxiety, and behavioral issues. I have experience with Motivational Interviewing, CBT, DBT, AODA, Solution Focused, and Person Centered counseling. I believe in using eclectic modalities as a counselor as every client needs specified treatment.

Genuineness, warmth, and empathy are three things synonymous with my therapy style. My job is to honor your story. I am here to help you make your life better. YOU identify the areas to address, and WE will work together to get you there. A favorite Japanese proverb of mine is, "Fall seven times, stand up eight." I hope to promote perseverance through difficult and challenging circumstance(s). I provide services to adults through individual, family, and group therapy.
