My extensive professional background includes working with children, adults and families who may be experiencing anxiety or depression. I am familiar with helping clients deal with behavioral issues and trauma such as divorce, death, illness, or an accident.

We all go through times in our lives when we feel unsure of ourselves, discouraged, overwhelmed, or depressed. We all have anxieties. We also each have unique resources, strengths, and coping skills that we may draw on, reconfigure, and enhance. Therapy helps us to use those most effectively. Difficulties arise for us for many reasons, both private and public. Conditions in our communities and our political climate affect how we interact in our personal and professional relationships. Therapy can help us identify and choose among our alternatives to cope with new--or even with old--problems.

Feeling seen and understood is healing. When we do not feel seen for who we are, we can lose sight of ourselves and what makes us unique. When we are not accepted, we can begin to feel disconnected, depressed, or disillusioned with life. If left unaddressed, this can grow into a nagging emptiness and unsuccessful attempts to avoid the feeling. Life can feel like a chore under the fog of this mental struggle. With the support of therapy, many can find themselves out of the fog to build a fulfilling life. We construct our emotional world based on our past experience. What we attend to in the present, and what we expect in the future, is also based on our past experience. Our initial work is to understand our past and how it shapes our perceptions of challenges. As we learn how these perceptions came into existence, we then work toward making different choices in our interactions with others. In this manner we attain understanding and acceptance of our "self" and others.

Sometimes we are depressed/anxious because of natural events (e.g. a family loss, career challenges, etc...), and other times we feel depressed/anxious without knowing why, as if our mind was hiding the distress source. Whether the collapse is "out there" or "in here," it often seems the world is collapsing.
