Due to the nature of mental health disorders, I work with, I would say my approach to therapy is basically helping you get through life as life continues to occur. Catherine Proa is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who obtained her Master’s of Social Work from the University of Maryland in 1996. She has been working with children, adults, families, and couples for the past 24 years. Catherine has extensive experience working with various therapeutic methodologies to provide individualized approaches for her clients. She also specializes in grief and bereavement issues and has a true understanding of loss. In 2017, Catherine became certified in Compassionate Bereavement Care through the MISS Foundation and The Elisabeth Kubler-Ross Family Trust, Sedona, AZ.

My approach to therapy is collaborative and creative, rooted in an appreciation and respect for each human being that chooses to work with me as they move towards greater wholeness in their lives. I see my role as offering support and guidance to help each person in their own unique process of growth and healing. I offer training in various skills that may be useful in the process, depending on the client’s individual needs. My approach is trauma-informed and rooted in cognitive skill building, mindfulness, expressive arts therapies, play therapy, systems theory, and somatic therapy.

I am a person-centered, relational therapist and believe in the power of the therapeutic relationship in walking along side you to your path of healing. I believe that you are the best expert on you and my goal is to work together on uncovering your strengths and assist you in working towards the goals and life you desire. I am a provisional licensed professional counselor in Louisiana and a certified addiction counselor in Louisiana. I am currently accepting clients who are paying out of pocket in Louisiana. I have flexible hours using a virtual setting to accommodate work schedules and allow counseling to be your priority. I work with children ages 10 and older, teenagers, and adults. I specialize in working with people in suicidal crisis, addiction and recovery, and the Queer community. I have over 4 years of experience working with kids & adults in intensive outpatient programs.
