I have worked in shelters for unhoused teenagers & families, correctional facilities, organizations for survivors of domestic violence & sexual assault & on the behavioral health unit at a hospital for children & teenagers. I focus on psycho-somatic practices to bring balance into the lives of my clients.

I see counseling as a process in which you the client, and I having come to understand and trust one another, work as a team to explore and define present problem situations, develop future goals for an improved life and work in a systematic fashion toward realizing those goals. I focus on clients with general mood disorders, addiction/ substance use and vocational issues. Working to help clients understand and identify their own strengths and incorporating coping skills. Helping them to exemplify their strengths while processing aspects of the past to create an understand their present and future.

Most of my clients are ordinary people who have been sexually abused as children or adults, or are from alcoholic families, or are struggling with alcoholism in their current life. They may be having difficulty adjusting to changing circumstaaances in their lives due to divorce or loss of a family member or friend. Many of my clients are experiencing depression or anxiety or chronic worry.

With over 25years of clinical experience I provide client centered treatments to assist clients to achieve their identified goals. I utilize treatment modalities that best fit client needs.These include brief therapy/solution focused treatment, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Insight oriented/Psychodynamic therapy and others. I provide treatment to children, adolescents, adults and couples.

John's knowledge and expertise includes crisis intervention, grief counseling, anger management, anxiety, depression, issues with sexual orientation, and assisting clients in adjusting to and coping with life changes. John is a Certified Schema Therapist and a member of the International Society of Schema Therapy.
