I have years of experience working with young adults, parents/families, and educators to navigate the unique challenges each of these experiences can bring. I support clients in navigating life transitions, identity development, values clarity, emotion regulation, and shame resilience. I also work with clients on attachment-related relationship dynamics and challenges that stem from early childhood or other attachment injuries. By connecting in a safe, compassionate, and non-judgmental space, clients are able to explore their internal worlds and gain clarity as well as a renewed sense of empowerment in their lives.

I obtained my Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology at the University of Mississippi in 2008; I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), a National Certified Counselor and a Certified Trauma Professional.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Board Approved Clinical Supervisor with 21 years of mental health experience, and have a law degree. I treat a variety of issues, including anxiety, depression and bi-polar depression, relationship issues and couple's counseling, and family mediation.

In seven years of psychotherapy work with children, adolescents, college students, adults, and families, I have found that unhealthy levels of stress can worsen problems related to self-esteem, anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, and beyond. These issues often lead to additional problems at home, school, or work and ultimately affect relationships with friends and family. Struggling with difficult life transitions may have a significant and lasting impact on the mind. It can be hard to navigate these situations or to know where to turn.

I specialize in trauma focused therapy using Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy and Ego State/IFS Therapy. The other counseling approaches I use are from a Cognitive Behavioral, Solution Focused, or Person Centered view. You are unique in your issues and our therapeutic relationship is tailored to you. My approach is a respectful inquiry into my client’s personal issues to envision improved functioning and a future to move towards change. My approach to counseling is holistic and based on the client's needs. I use methodology from humanistic psychology, person-centered therapy, psychodynamic theory and cognitive behavioral therapy. I help clients identify hidden strengths and discover obstacles to a more meaningful life. I work with the client on building an authentic therapeutic relationship where the client is seen as the expert in her/his own life. I do this in a compassionate, safe, and nonjudgmental process. I am effective in working with people who seek short-term, solution-focused therapy as well as longer-term therapeutic goals.

I use an integrated approach to provide individual counseling and play therapy services to adults and children. I am interested in aiding clients who deal with difficulties surrounding divorce, daily stressors, relationship issues, anxiety and depression. I intend to focus on working with children and families attempting to readjust to the rules and roles of the new family structure that can surface. I will provide a safe environment where clients can work collaboratively with me to identify concerns and process them. I will help clients use this new awareness to determine effective coping and communication skills.

Over the past fifteen years my practice has evolved towards working with adults who are seeking to understand relational patterns learned in childhood that are impacting their current relationships. Individuals who grew up in a home that was either overly controlling, chaotic, or a mixture of both often develop a special set of coping skills that helped them survive that early relationship but might lead to misunderstandings and confusion in healthier relationships. Understanding the roots of these relationship patterns can help shift them and allow healthier relationship patterns to become established.
