What happened to the person I married?”, you’re thinking. Well, it’s still them- just the stressed, frustrated version whose worst traits are rising to the surface. Spending so much energy on work, parenting, or have-to-dos leaves little room for the love and connection that you once shared. In its place are anger, criticism, and controlling behaviors. The distance and disconnection is worrisome, but confronting them just seems to lead to an argument and more problems. You're left feeling confused, depressed, and alone. All you really know for sure is that something has to change- and soon.

We are a small private practice specializing in cognitive-behavioral strategies and strength-based counseling. We see people of all ages and conduct individual, couples, and family therapy sessions. Our staff work with a wide variety of issues including, but not limited to, depression, anxiety, mood disorders, self-injury, suicidality, trauma, divorce, and grief/loss.

I provide therapy during the afternoon and after typical "work hours" from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday. I strive to build an authentic connection with my patients and do so by taking a "human-first" approach in my interactions. I am engaged and active in therapy, easily-accessible to answer questions and encourage communication outside of sessions via e-mail. My goal is to take the knowledge I have as a doctor and apply it in a meaningful and friendly manner; this is accomplished through a comprehensive care model, with ongoing research, communication, and individually-tailored interventions.

The journey of one's life can be thrown off course by unexpected changes, trauma, grief, life/family transitions, and emotional struggles. Approval seeking, bad relationships and addictions keep us from living out our true potential, but they're not the real problem. Many practitioners provide a long list of conditions, diagnoses and symptoms they treat. Frankly, I'm not all that interested in symptoms: I want to help you figure out why you've been using the same strategies for years and expecting different results. If you want to stop waking up every morning and hoping that somehow - today - your life is somehow going to be different, you've got to DO something different.

Our goal is to get you back to being you. Dr. Goldfarb is a Yale trained psychologist who offers psychological services for mood and anxiety disorders including depression, anxiety, addictions, ADHD/ADD, stress, grief and loss, infertility, self-esteem, relationship difficulties, and chronic pain. We work with individuals, couples, and families. We treat children, adolescents and adults. Dr. Goldfarb provides evidence-based treatment, including psychodynamic and cognitive-behavioral psychotherapy. She has extensive training in working with clients with eating and weight disorders. She also specializes in conducting psychological evaluations/assessments for children and adults, including gifted testing and forensic evaluations.

My experience includes working in a state psychiatric hospital, mental health court, skilled nursing facility, & individual therapy. As a result, I am experienced working with individuals suffering from a broad range of severe & persistent mental illness: depression, anxiety, stress, bipolar disorder, substance abuse, borderline personality disorder, anger issues, trauma, binge eating disorder, and more. Amongst others, I am trained in CBT, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy - clinically proven to assist individuals with Borderline Personality Disorder, Mindfulness, and Cognitive Processing Therapy for individuals with trauma/PTSD.

I most effectively treat persons who have one or more of the following symptoms, and/or issues: depression; anxiety; marital, family, or other relationship problems. I also have expertise in the treatment of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and geriatric mental health issues, including end of life issues. I help persons who are functioning relatively well, but want to increase ability to establish and attain goals; and increase their capacity for happiness and fulfillment in life. I specialize in empowering individuals in their quest for more satisfying romantic, social, and work relationships.

Many of us struggle with conflicting thoughts and emotions. Facing challenging decisions, navigating intimate relationships and family, and carrying too many responsibilities can be overwhelming and often too difficult to work though alone. Unresolved issues and traumas can lead to feeling "stuck" rather than taking steps towards finding solutions and healing. Many people resort to "quick fixes" when feeling lonely, anxious, or depressed, instead of addressing the root cause of the pain and discomfort. My experiences and training allow me to help you find tools within yourself to discover new perspectives and cultivate new skills.

Life is to short to settle for bad relationships, suffer from low self esteem, anxiety, addictions or depression. But often, finding the "right" therapist" to help you resolve these issues, can leave you feeling like you are looking for a needle in a haystack. I have been told that I have a gift of helping others. It is my sincere desire to help you get the results you desire. By helping you clarify your goals, and then by keeping each session focused on steps toward that goal, you can achieve the change you are looking for. My style and approach to therapy is never a "one size fits all" but will be customized to fit your needs.
