You're getting comfortable outside of your comfort zone. When you feel sad or anxious, your coping skills are pretty solid. And still . . . You want to level up. You're going through a life change, which you know will make you happy soon, but currently feels like being hit by a truck of mixed emotions. You want a fresh perspective on your relationship. You wonder about your doubts, your dreams, and the beautiful messes that make you you. And I'm so glad!

If you need to talk about anything and everything, clients tell me I have a strong capacity for compassion, empathy, and care. At the same time, I’m forthright and candid. I see you and hear you—a whole person (body, mind, spirit) living in an interactive and interconnected world. I believe you're the expert in you--even if you're not yet aware of it. My role is to help you find that, and bring my own holistic vision, experience, training, expertise, and tools to the table, so you can work to be the best possible version of you.

Traumatic experiences, whether single incident or complex, can lead to relationship problems, shame, low self-esteem, problems trusting others, feeling unsafe, unhealthy relationship dynamics, maladaptive coping, anxiety, panic attacks, depression, and reactivity to trauma triggers (startle response, emotional numbing, intrusive thoughts, flashbacks, hypervigilance, dissociation, etc.). I treat clients whose problems have originated from traumatic experiences to help them heal from the past and to live a full life in the present.

Therapy can help you overcome difficulties, live creatively, and feel more alive. Many people become stuck in ways of thinking and living that no longer serve them. Through a caring therapeutic relationship, you can develop the courage to live in a meaningful and fulfilling way. Over the past 17 years, I have helped people with a wide variety of issues work through significant challenges, freeing them to make better choices. In addition to my clinical work, I teach and supervise at various training programs throughout the Bay Area, and am the Director of Counseling at California College of the Arts.

Therapy often gets a bad name when there is a sense of disconnect between client and therapist, which can make therapy feel like another struggle. Life is challenging enough. I am committed to creating a comfortable and genuine dialogue with each client, or to offering more fitting outside referrals. I am able to put people at ease, welcoming humor where appropriate.

Clients approach me with a wide variety of concerns. Some examples: Teens and young adults often seek help in identifying and gaining traction in their goals and aspirations. Parents may struggle with their adolescent or young adult children, and need help navigating these years. Older clients may be facing the life challenges of redirecting their present and future life's goals, facing diminishing capacity, and seeking support in grief. Substance abuse or dependency, learning differences, and environmental stressors are among the many issues that my clients may be experiencing and benefit from addressing in therapy with me.

I work with people struggling with anxiety, depression, grief/loss, family issues, and relationship difficulties. I have extensive training in working with young adults and those going through significant life transitions, such as early childhood transitions, entering or leaving College/Graduate school, or becoming a parent.

I have worked in the field of psychology for over twenty years. In my psychotherapy work, I provide a safe and respectful setting where you can discuss current challenges, and understand how particular feelings and patterns contribute to these challenges. Often these challenges develop out of prior dysfunctional relationships, and it is in the psychotherapy relationship that new and more satisfying goals and behaviors can be discussed and developed. In our initial appointments I actively listen and engage with patients to develop a psychological framework to understand their challenges, and then set concise goals to address in the therapy.

I believe three core things about therapy: 1. People are inherently healthy. 2. Therapy is not just about symptoms. 3. If the therapy is working, you'll know it. Traditionally, psychotherapy has been associated with illness while wellness and depth have been left to the self-help movement. The theory I practice sees everyone as sound at the core. As a result, there is no ceiling on "getting better." Someone with symptoms wants to feel more like him or herself, which I aim to make happen as quickly as possible. At the same time, I help people to achieve clear interpersonal, professional, and creative change.

I am a psychological Assistant with Core Insights Psychological Group, and supervised by Dr. Norval J. Hickman, III. I have trained and worked in a variety of settings including community mental health agencies, high schools, and community/psychiatric outpatient clinics. I have experience treating a variety of issues including anxiety, depression, trauma, job-related stress, educational problems, life transitions, eating disorders, and family stress and conflict. I provide therapeutic interventions utilizing mindfulness practices, relational psychodynamic frameworks, and CBT/DBT/ACT interventions.
