Heartstone Guidance Center is a group of neurodivergent therapists offering neurodiversity affirming, LGBTQIA-affirming, and culturally aware therapy services. We have autistic, ADHD, and otherwise neurodivergent therapists who offer authenticity and a space where you will be seen, heard, and respected as the authority and expert in your life. We are the alternative to the world that tells you that you need to be neurotypical or normal to fit in and be accepted. We offer therapy to help you understand and embrace your true identity, find compassion for yourself, and develop coping strategies for living in a stressful world.

Melissa has experience working with adults, college age students, and adolescents. Clinical issues that she has the most experience with includes personality disorders, depression, trauma, grief, anxiety, relationship issues, self esteem issues, obsessive and compulsive behaviors, and stress management. A main focus of treatment is to establish a therapeutic alliance with the client. Melissa believes that having a good connection helps facilitate effective counseling and provides the best outcomes. Life can be challenging for all of us at times. Maybe a new challenge or crisis has arisen, or maybe you want to address a problem you've carried for years. It can be hard, and takes strength, to acknowledge when you're stuck and need help dealing with painful feelings or self-defeating behaviors. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who specializes in the treatment of children, adolescents and adults experiencing difficulties due to the trauma of sexual victimization and domestic violence. I have worked extensively within the Kent County Family Court system and various area agencies in addressing safety and advocacy issues for children and families. Additional areas of clinical expertise include anxiety and panic disorder, marriage counseling and working with divorced parents in establishing an effective co-parenting plan for the children. I have co-facilitated a grief recovery support group for the past 6 years.

I have worked with adolescents and adults as a counselor and as an educator for more than 17 years. She specializes in utilizing a holistic approach to address issues that arise from unresolved trauma, stress and anxiety, life transitions, and mood disorders. Emily believes by addressing dysfunctional patterns of the mind and body that stem from the past, we can live fuller and more balanced lives in the present and future. Emily aims to bring her whole self to the therapeutic process and hopes for her clients to do the same.
