I try to make connections between the presenting problems and unresolved family issues and recurring themes in their family. The therapy proceeds with a combination of working out some of the family or origin issues, practical strategies and dealing with the anxiety and depression that the client might be experience. Couples present with a variety of problems often related to unrealistic expectations, reactivity to each other based on unresolved family issues. I would explore these issues and help the couple try to negotiate their differences
