At Music Therapy Montclair we specialize in mental health services for all ages, providing evidence-based creative arts interventions for individuals dealing with anxiety or depression, seeking alternatives to more traditional therapies, or in need of additional support. I have been married to my best friend for 40 years and have been blessed with two children (a son and daughter) and two wonderful grandchildren. Since 1989 I have worked throughout the tristate area as a counselor. After many years of working as a life coach and spiritual counselor, I attained a Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I have worked extensively in the criminal justice system with adults and troubled youth. I specialize in individual/couples therapy as well as addiction, PTSD, anxiety related illnesses and depression. I have learned that every client makes sense if their backstory is understood.

I have been working with children and adolescents in school settings for over 20 years, first as a Special Education Teacher and then as a School Counselor. Through this work, I helped my adolescents and young adults develop executive functioning skills, organizational skills, and goal setting to help them transition into their future endeavors. Now, as a Student Assistance Counselor, I work with adolescents in a high school supporting their mental health needs and substance abuse issues. As a LPC, my goal is to help my clients explore the root of their distress, identify needs and wants and work toward a more balanced life.

My approach gets measurable results. I teach my clients about their mental health challenge, and they then implement strategies that reduce their symptoms. I am friendly and easy-going, and I love finding creative ways to help clients increase their resiliency, confidence, and self-compassion. My goal is to guide clients in identifying, evaluating, and reframing their negative thoughts, and cultivating behavioral practices that are more supportive and enduring. Motivated clients find CBT extremely helpful because learning about how their brain processes emotions enables them to manage those emotions.

I provide long-term psychodynamic therapy to adults and couples. I focus on exploring interpersonal and trauma-based patterns, and how they shape personality, emotions, and everyday functioning. I also use mindfulness, problem solving, and other strategies if your needs call for them. Meeting more than once per week can facilitate this work but I am open to your preference. I seek to create an open, engaged, comfortable, and constantly evolving therapeutic relationship that motivates you to work through your struggles. I individualize my approach to your unique needs and continually adapt as therapy proceeds.
