I have had significant success helping clients deal with issues such as relationships, loss, aging, trauma, body image, career development, stress management, depression, anxiety, illness, personal growth and what I call "behavioral decluttering", ( illiminating old and unwanted behaviors). My style as a therapist is to help clients identify those areas of their lives which are most troubling and then develop specific goals to ensure that therapy produces important life changing results. The ultimate goal is for clients to eventually serve as their own therapists, applying what they learned in therapy to lead more fulfilling lives.

Whether you are dealing with issues of grief and loss, divorce/separation, infertility, anxiety, depression, anger management, parenting, self esteem, adoption, crisis management or anything that keeps you stuck and gets in the way of your progress, I can provide a safe, judgement free zone to help you process your feelings and take charge of your life.
Feeling overwhelmed with life, and don't know where to begin? In today's demanding world, you find yourself with so many things that you are juggling in order to create a healthy balance in your life. No matter how much you put your best foot forward, there is always something that gets in the way, causing you to doubt your progress. You try to push through each day with a smile on your face, but internally you are falling apart. You are living in survival mode and feeling like you are barely making it. Life has a way of making us feel broken down, conflicted and frustrated. I can reassure you that it does not have to be this way.

I also work with couples, parents, older adults as well as focus on adoption and grief.
Reaching out for help, especially in stressful times, takes courage. And finding a therapist you can open up to is important. One of my strengths is providing a judgement-free, compassionate space for you to share your feelings, thoughts, hopes and dreams. Together, we are identifying and exploring obstacles and patterns, often that we all experience as human beings, without knowing why. I think every person is an individual and unique in his/her/their own way. I have both clinical and life experience to help with stressors related to life transitions, relationships, family issues, and work.

Special interests include working with intimacy issues: looking for the right partner, staying with one, finding your way to parent hood, infertility, adoption, or letting go of a relationship that no longer serves you.
Hello, whether this is your first time seeking therapy, or you are looking for a fresh perspective, it is important to find the right fit. I bring thirty years of experience, listening, and thinking to help us build a relationship of mutual trust. Sometimes when you really feel heard, you begin to hear yourself differently, and surprising new directions emerge. If appropriate I may use Focusing, as developed by Eugene Gendlin, to help you find next steps, when you gently bring your awareness into your "body knowing" of a situation. Depression and anxiety may then lessen.

I am a trained family therapist and have years experience working with adolescents, especially those with foster care and adoption histories.
I believe that the therapeutic process, although painful at times, is very rewarding and that individuals can heal and have fulfilling lives from engaging in treatment. My ideal client is a person who is willing to consistently attend therapy and trust in the process. I understand that "resistance" is a necessary part of treatment and believe that trust comes when the client and therapist continue to interact with each other. Therapy can be an unique and rewarding experience; please join me on the road to discovering your authentic self.

I have helped individuals balance life/work, confront creative blocks, and with parenting issues, including infertility, pre/post natal depression and anxiety, pre/post adoption stressors.
I am a clinical psychologist with 15 years of experience working with people struggling with relationship issues, creative blocks, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, chronic and acute illness (including cancer), and trauma. My style is pragmatic and flexible; there is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to individual therapy. I listen with empathy to create a safe environment, while also providing valuable and straightforward feedback. In addition to therapy, I offer psychological evaluation services: assessment of neuro-cognitive functioning and emotional dynamics, as well as pre-adoptive parental evaluations.

I have experience and training in intimate partner violence, trauma, and open adoption.
I am an LCSW who prioritizes creating a safe and supportive environment. My goal is to help clients better understand how their life histories and relationships impact their present experience, and then develop concrete strategies for problem-solving. I use a psychodynamic lens and integrate modalities such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) to assist with symptoms and improve overall functioning. I enjoy working with those experiencing life transitions, job stressors, relationship issues, anxiety, depression, and perinatal mood disorders

I offer additional expertise in the areas of relationships, sexual orientation, gender identity, and adoption issues.
I believe that people have an innate capacity to heal and change. Access to this healing is sometimes blocked by negative and destructive patterns that are formed when there is a need to adapt and survive difficult, traumatic or overwhelming experiences. In a collaborative, empathic, and safe atmosphere, I facilitate people’s connections to their own resources and foster the creation of a compassionate self that is free to make mindful choices and unhook old patterns. Through psychodynamic and somatically oriented approaches, people find new insights and awareness, build resiliency and create pathways to greater fulfillment.

Anxiety, depression, relationship issues, substance abuse, grief and loss, eating issues, pregnancy loss, adoption issues or new motherhood and postpartum depression; we can work through these things together.

I have a special interest in working with adolescents and young adults struggling with issues of identity and achievement, individuals dealing with grief and loss, women (and men) experiencing infertility and adoption issues, adults in transition, and fractured parent/child relationships.
At one time or another, any one of us may feel overwhelmed, anxious or depressed. We may feel we are alone in our suffering or going through something no one else can understand. We may turn to drugs, alcohol or reckless behaviors. Our relationships suffer, our identity and self-worth collapse, and the vision we have for a happy, fulfilled future seems impossible to achieve. For many, therapy provides the guidance, skills, support and insight to unravel the source of suffering and change limiting thoughts, beliefs and behaviors into healthy, adaptive ones.

To explore these issues, a safe and confidential environment must be established. I am dedicated to working with care, compassion and respect for my clients throughout the therapeutic process.

A special interest of mine is infertility and adoption, and I work with both children and adults in that regard.
We all experience times in our lives when what once worked for us no longer does. We may become overwhelmed, anxious, fearful, or angry and are no longer able to ignore those feelings. Instead they get in our way. Talking to someone, especially one who listens to you carefully and joins you in a collaborative and supportive process, is amazingly helpful. People with whom I work note that they begin to feel better and less alone almost immediately.

Adoption Therapists

Does my adopted child need therapy?

Not every adopted child needs therapy. However, many can benefit from seeing an adoption-informed therapist, especially if they were victims of abuse or neglect, appear withdrawn or disconnected, have behavioral or developmental issues (which may or may not be related to their adoption), are struggling with feelings of grief or loss surrounding their birth parents, or find it difficult to establish an identity, a challenge that often becomes most apparent during adolescence.

When should adoptive parents seek therapy?

Prospective parents can benefit from therapy even before an adoption—for example, to voice worries and fears; to reconcile infertility struggles, if relevant; or simply to prepare themselves for parenthood. After the adoption, parents who are struggling to bond with their child; are unsure how to talk about adoption or related issues, such as race; or whose child is dealing with developmental, behavioral, or psychiatric concerns can address these and other issues with the help of an adoption-competent therapist.

Is family therapy appropriate for adoptive families?

Family therapy can be invaluable for strengthening the bond between adoptive parents and children, helping the latter feel more secure in their place in the family. Family therapy can also help adoptive families navigate complex communication issues—for example, parents who feel uncomfortable discussing race with their child, who in turn feels invalidated by their silence, or a child who has questions about his birth parents but avoids asking them out of fear of hurting his adoptive parents’ feelings.

What therapy is not appropriate for adoption issues?

A discredited therapy known as “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy” or “rebirthing therapy”) should not be used to treat adopted and foster children, though it was largely designed for this population. Attachment therapy involves restraining, coercing, and punishing the child in order for them to “release” negative emotions and attach to their new caregivers—techniques that are abusive and dangerous and have even proven fatal in some cases.
