Hi! My name is Sarah Desselles. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. As a young child, my desire/passion began to make a difference in the lives of others. Understanding human thought, behavior, and feelings. Helping someone become the best version of themselves. I enjoy interacting with people. I enjoy listening to their life stories, challenges, successes, etc. I meet people where they are, provide a listening ear, and have the ability to help them navigate. I specialize in working with families and individuals. Much of my practice centers around family issues such as divorce and blended families. Children and adolescents comprise much of my practice. An additional component of my practice is providing Supervised Visitation services. Visits are planned by the parent. Activities consist of those that the children will enjoy.

I began my career as a Pastoral Counselor in 1989. I worked as a Pastoral Counselor both in church and hospital settings. My internship in Marriage and Family therapy began in 1993 at Mercy-Baptist Medical Center in New Orleans under the direction of Dr. Myron Madden and Dr. Doug Ezell. My primary focus is now in the area of Marriage and Family Therapy. I have an earned PhD in Family Psychology and an MS in Clinical Counseling. I am a clinical member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy, and the American Psychological Association.

Although each human experience and journey is unique, they are closely intertwined with others. Most of the struggles that a person seeks therapeutic services for are not isolated to them, one situation, nor issue. I truly seek a holistic and eclectic approach allowing for individualized care that can have a greater impact in providing hope and change. Through my training and various experiences, I have found many innovative ways in treating families, adults, adolescents, young adults, and couples that are struggling with: depression, anxiety, addiction, family discord, grief, mental and behavioral issues, and failure to launch.

The purpose of therapy is to restore the client to a healthy state of life by helping to remove barriers that may hinder this process. I specialize in the mental health care of children, adults, couples and families. My services include individual, group, marriage counseling and family therapy. Parent training, workshops, play therapy and prevention groups are also offered. I have twenty years experience working within the field of mental health. I utilize a number of therapeutic techniques and interventions that are tailored to the the client. I'm an Independent Assessor, Clinical Supervisor, mentor and consultant.

I earned my MSW in 2019 and am currently a PhD candidate at LSU. As an LCSW, I have worked in many settings, including the Baton Rouge Children’s Advocacy Center, an inpatient adolescent psychiatric unit, private practice, and as an adjunct instructor at LSU. My interests and approaches include trauma-informed care, attachment, play therapy, and parent-child interactions. I am trained and utilize a variety of modalities, including TraumaPlay and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
