I have extensive experience working with clients in the LGBTQIA+ community including writing letters for HRT and gender confirmation surgeries, foster care and adoption cases, agency and court involvement, military service members, self-harm and suicidality, teenage behavioral issues, depression and anxiety, and domestic violence.

When we get stuck -- in a rut at work, in a stormy relationship, in a lukewarm marriage, with our children -- we suffer but are often pulled to focus on the problem rather than finding a solution. I focus on trauma initially because what I have found in over 6 years of work as a trauma therapist, is that so much of our present concerns and limitations is rooted in trauma exposure and history. This lends itself to unhealthy patterns of avoidance, hypervigilance/hyperarousal, disturbance in mood and cognitions. and being inundated with intrusions and flashbacks. Many patients that have struggled with years with anxiety and or depressive episodes really have suffered from trauma that has not yet been dealt with. I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in Kansas and a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Washington State who works from a CBT perspective but does utilize a collaborative style. My approach is to work with you and help you realize your strengths and to find healthy ways to cope with difficult situations in your life. I work with adolescents(13-18), adults and geriatric on a variety of mental health concerns, however, I specialize in helping individuals with mood disorders and sexual addiction/dysfunction.

Building a trusting relationship between client and therapist is a key component in the therapeutic process. I am here to create a safe space for clients to process their needs and discover tools and interventions that will improve their overall quality of life. I enjoy working with children who are displaying behavioral and social/emotional concerns while incorporating the family. I work with clients of all ages. With younger populations I specialize in childhood anxiety, depression, neglect/abuse, children of divorce, foster care, anger management, and aggressive behaviors. With adults I use client centered and solution focused approaches to address symptoms related to anxiety, depression, and adverse experiences including trauma. I am trained in TF-CBT (trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy) and EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) and utilize those therapies with both children and adults. I look for behavioral and wholistic ways to improve functioning before suggesting medicinal interventions.

I have been a counselor for almost 19 years. I have worked in the addiction field and with couples and families helping them to resolve issues between couples and family members. I also have worked with people who have co-dependency issues, anxiety issues, post traumatic stress disorder, and depression. I am moved into my own private practice in June 2015. I am currently a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and a Chemical Dependency Proffessional, in Washington State and now am licensed in Kansas and have moved my practice to Kansas, but can continue to work with people in Washington State online.
