I have extensive experience working with women and matters that are unique to women. My clients have often dealt with depression, anxiety, infertility, infidelity, miscarriage, post-partum, and adoption. They often find themselves in the midst of relationship problems, life-stressors, anxiety, or grief. Others have come to recognize that past trauma (childhood or other) is affecting their current relationships and personal outlook on life. Women desiring to heal and grow find themselves very comfortable with my relaxed, non-judgmental and compassionate attitude.

Let's make some goals together and work on moving past the things that have you stuck where you are. I have a background in trauma, addiction, neurodivergence, and work with children that can help me help you in whatever stage you are at in life. I want to learn about what is important to you and help you find your superpowers in the things others think are weaknesses. I believe everyone is valuable, everyone is worthy, and everyone is important. As your counselor I promise to not judge you, but instead support you in what you are needing.

There are times in everyone's life when we are challenged to the point with seemingly no solutions. Through my years working in the Emergency Department, the sexual assault abuse unit, as an instructor, and as a therapist coupled with life experiences, I have learned about resiliency. It is not about how one falls but how one lands. I truly believe the best investment anyone can make is in themselves. Through my work as a therapist, I assist others in finding their own way through turmoil so they may invest again in themselves.

Hi there! I know is not easy to take the first step into therapy. Or making the decision to get back into therapy or even looking for a new counselor. It takes strength and wisdom to reach out for help. Sometimes life does not go the way we plan. Or we simply find ourselves with day to day stress/struggles. I like to embrace what you are already doing good and empower you in your life journey.

Are you a parent struggling to understand the complex emotional or behavioral issues your kiddo is facing? Maybe you are in survival mode, barely making it through the day before you collapse, exhausted, into bed each night, just do start the whole process over in the morning. It can cause strain on a marriage when survival mode becomes the daily grind. I want to help you add some tools to your toolbelt. Parenting kids with a trauma background is a whole different ballgame that requires a different approach than conventional parenting. I love to help couples be on the same team and make it through these tumultuous waters together.

Are you feeling set-off by everything, easily triggered, and frustrated with everyone? Maybe it’s the opposite - you feel lonely, sad, and no one loves you. You’re tired of fighting, and you’re exhausted by all the critical comments. You want to feel supported, cared for, and accepted by your friends and family. You need others to understand “It’s not the same” and “I am not you!” You need someone to HEAR you!

I am passionate about helping individuals and couples build the relationships and lives they desire. We each enter our relationships with hurts and blind spots that keep us from connecting as we would like. Trauma is often the source of our hurt, even if it is many minor traumas. When these traumas are not dealt with, they can lead us to experience anxiety and depression. We must learn the tools to help us heal these root issues. Once we learn the tools, we must practice using them in a safe environment and apply them to other relationships.

Adoption Therapists

Does my adopted child need therapy?

Not every adopted child needs therapy. However, many can benefit from seeing an adoption-informed therapist, especially if they were victims of abuse or neglect, appear withdrawn or disconnected, have behavioral or developmental issues (which may or may not be related to their adoption), are struggling with feelings of grief or loss surrounding their birth parents, or find it difficult to establish an identity, a challenge that often becomes most apparent during adolescence.

When should adoptive parents seek therapy?

Prospective parents can benefit from therapy even before an adoption—for example, to voice worries and fears; to reconcile infertility struggles, if relevant; or simply to prepare themselves for parenthood. After the adoption, parents who are struggling to bond with their child; are unsure how to talk about adoption or related issues, such as race; or whose child is dealing with developmental, behavioral, or psychiatric concerns can address these and other issues with the help of an adoption-competent therapist.

Is family therapy appropriate for adoptive families?

Family therapy can be invaluable for strengthening the bond between adoptive parents and children, helping the latter feel more secure in their place in the family. Family therapy can also help adoptive families navigate complex communication issues—for example, parents who feel uncomfortable discussing race with their child, who in turn feels invalidated by their silence, or a child who has questions about his birth parents but avoids asking them out of fear of hurting his adoptive parents’ feelings.

What therapy is not appropriate for adoption issues?

A discredited therapy known as “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy” or “rebirthing therapy”) should not be used to treat adopted and foster children, though it was largely designed for this population. Attachment therapy involves restraining, coercing, and punishing the child in order for them to “release” negative emotions and attach to their new caregivers—techniques that are abusive and dangerous and have even proven fatal in some cases.
