My experience is with individuals who are struggling with depression, anxiety, loss, trauma, adoption related issues, substance abuse, family conflict, child welfare, and managing life events.
Making the decision to start therapy can be a very vulnerable time, whether it be for you or your child. In therapy you will have a safe and judgement free space to meet your goals. I enjoy working with children and adults to recognize strengths and build on them to assist you in meeting your well being needs. Whether you are struggling to overcome an incident or event, wanting to make specific changes in your life, or looking to improve your overall quality of life and feel better about yourself, we will work together.

I believe everyone has a story to tell and sometimes the beginning to the healing path is sharing that story. I have seen and helped people change directions from an undesired life path to one of true healing and personal success. My goal is to help each person be the best version of themselves that has always been inside, but was unable to flourish. Everyone has the potential to shine, but sometimes the light is buried under past trauma, self doubt, lack of confidence, or simply lacking the opportunity to look inward to find that true potential.

When you make a decision to begin therapy for yourself or a loved one, you are making a decision to be brave. I believe that for a person to heal and move beyond their internal struggle, they must first have a sense of safety and connection. Together, we will develop a path of treatment that leads you too feeling more balanced.

I enjoy working with children, adolescents, adults, and families on a variety of challenges. I especially enjoy working with kids using play-based interventions. Play therapy is an approach to counseling that allows children to use toys and other play materials to express their thoughts and feelings. I am a registered play therapist with many hours of specialized training in play therapy techniques. I am also trained in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT).

Hello Beautiful People! I enjoy seeing all ages, adults, children, and teens. I see both non-traumatized people, who are usually dealing with anxiety and issues with mood, and people who experienced trauma, who deal with pain and many complexities of distress. I believe people get to where they want to if they just keep trying and do not give up. I would call that growing. I believe people want to feel regarded, respected, like they belong, and satisfied about something in their lives. I like to partner with people to create a map of how to untangle the knots, dislodge the stuck places, and move through obstacles to feeling better.

Being a kid is hard sometimes. Being a parent or caregiver can be hard too. Perhaps life has taken an unexpected turn. Maybe the stressors feel too big to handle or things just don’t feel right & you aren’t sure why. Perhaps you’ve noticed a change in your child’s behavior & mood. Loss, trauma, anxiety, relationship concerns, or issues related to adoption, foster care or abuse can leave your child (and you) feeling lost, hopeless, confused, & hurting. Life doesn’t have to feel so hard & you don’t have to figure it out alone. I’m here to walk alongside you & your child with compassion and care as you navigate life’s twists & turns.

Adoption Therapists

Does my adopted child need therapy?

Not every adopted child needs therapy. However, many can benefit from seeing an adoption-informed therapist, especially if they were victims of abuse or neglect, appear withdrawn or disconnected, have behavioral or developmental issues (which may or may not be related to their adoption), are struggling with feelings of grief or loss surrounding their birth parents, or find it difficult to establish an identity, a challenge that often becomes most apparent during adolescence.

When should adoptive parents seek therapy?

Prospective parents can benefit from therapy even before an adoption—for example, to voice worries and fears; to reconcile infertility struggles, if relevant; or simply to prepare themselves for parenthood. After the adoption, parents who are struggling to bond with their child; are unsure how to talk about adoption or related issues, such as race; or whose child is dealing with developmental, behavioral, or psychiatric concerns can address these and other issues with the help of an adoption-competent therapist.

Is family therapy appropriate for adoptive families?

Family therapy can be invaluable for strengthening the bond between adoptive parents and children, helping the latter feel more secure in their place in the family. Family therapy can also help adoptive families navigate complex communication issues—for example, parents who feel uncomfortable discussing race with their child, who in turn feels invalidated by their silence, or a child who has questions about his birth parents but avoids asking them out of fear of hurting his adoptive parents’ feelings.

What therapy is not appropriate for adoption issues?

A discredited therapy known as “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy” or “rebirthing therapy”) should not be used to treat adopted and foster children, though it was largely designed for this population. Attachment therapy involves restraining, coercing, and punishing the child in order for them to “release” negative emotions and attach to their new caregivers—techniques that are abusive and dangerous and have even proven fatal in some cases.
