I specialize in individual therapy with adults and adolescents struggling with anxiety, depression, addiction, trauma, eating disorders, adjustments to life stressors, and more. I also love working with artists and creative people. I primarily use the Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT) Model with clients, an evidence-based model that stems out of cognitive behavioral therapy, and the idea that our thoughts, emotions and behaviors are closely connected. Clients learn many skills related to mindfulness, radical acceptance, and self-compassion.

ACT therapists use a strengths-based perspective to collaborate with clients, and help clients identify values and goals. I have a MSW from the University of Iowa School of Social Work (2004) and an MFA from the Iowa Writers' Workshop (2016). I've worked as a social worker in Iowa for ten years, and served on UI faculty for three years (2014-2017).

Three books I consider foundational to my practice are: Self-Compassion by Kristin Neff; Radical Acceptance by Tara Brach; On Becoming a Person by Carl Rogers. I am also currently obsessed with the podcast Everything Happens with Kate Bowler, who explores “How to live after the worst day of your life”; it's moving, tender, heartbreaking, and often hilarious.
