Are you troubled by negative or distressing thoughts & memories from the past or present? Have you experienced a trauma? Perhaps you find yourself "overreacting" to minor or non-incidents. Do others say you're "too sensitive"? Maybe you have lost someone or something and you're finding it difficult to move forward. You are in a battle to reclaim you're stability, freedom, joy, self-confidence, self-worth, self-control, or even a part of yourself. Somehow you have lost your way & you would give just about anything to get back to how life used to be. Or maybe you desire something even better than before. . . .

As a scientist that has worked for a decade in drug metabolism research, both in Italy and the US, I always attempt to utilize evidence based interventions with my clients. When dealing with 'softer' sciences surrounding the mental health field, the best course of treatment is often difficult to ascertain. I strive to provide a collaborative, empirical, transparent process which adopts the best evidence based approaches to your unique, personal treatment needs. I am looking forward to rolling up my sleeves and working with you!

I provide a safe, comfortable, and supportive enviornment where I guide individuals and couples to help them overcome mental health and emotional issues to bring about a new level of awareness and change. This is done by identifying and understanding the underlying causes, changing destructive thought patterns, and behaviors. I am also a certified Thai Yoga therapist. I keep both practices separate in that I do not do psychotherapy with Thai Yoga clients or vice versa.

Most will experience times in life when it seems everything is upside down and they're just hanging on. Sometimes it's just hard identifying the source of your pain. In either case, reaching out to a skilled therapist makes all the sense in the world. I work closely with clients affected by depression, anxiety, trauma, relational issues, grief, loss and racial injustice indignities. My focus is working with women through transitions in life, individuals desiring self-esteem development, and couples who want to heal and transform their relationship into a richer and more connected union.

Let's be honest... adolescence and young adulthood can be tough! This period in life is often characterized by identity confusion, low self-esteem, difficulty regulating emotions, behavioral concerns, and many more challenges that the average young person isn't equipped to handle on their own. I definitely didn't know what to do when I experienced these hurdles as an adolescent and young adult. To this day, I still have to ask for help every once in a while! If you are beginning the process of finding help for yourself or your child, I want to applaud you for taking the first step in a challenging yet worthwhile journey!

You don’t feel like yourself these days. You find yourself overanalyzing every situation until you’ve thought of every scenario. You may feel like nothing you do is ever good enough. Maybe you say yes to things you don’t actually want to do, because that people pleaser inside of you can’t say no. Maybe you prevent yourself from finding happiness because you feel you don’t deserve it. You’re tired of feeling numb or empty. You want to feel like yourself again, but the thought of starting this process seems daunting. Afterall, you’re “fine”….or at least that’s what you tell yourself. Maybe it seems like things will never change.

Are you struggling to manage all the different forces around you? Things like work, home, body image, society at large? I work with individuals to help navigate their way around a variety of issues. My approach is both person-centered and systemic focused - I focus both on the individual in front of me and the different systemic issues that can impact mental health (racism, sexism, etc.). I believe that each person has the strength to work on themselves while also navigating a challenging world. I used evidence-based practices as well as approaches I believe help people on an individual level; no two clients are the same!

I have spent a number of years specializing in difficult cases whether it be individual work, couples counseling or family therapy. I especially enjoy working with families whose adolescents appear to be out of control. In those cases it is my job to help the parents to become strong enough to assume their authority and help the family to return to normalcy. I think that what draws clients to my practice is my own strength and sense of competency.

Are you feeling ready to explore a new way of viewing the world, your relationships, and yourself? I work with people who struggle with distressing experiences, anxiety, depression, grief, and trauma. These experiences alter how we view ourselves and our surroundings. It can become so overwhelming for some to the point where you may observe avoiding experiences you previously enjoyed, or feel as if you are surviving day to day. My perspective is to help you reach your goals through a safe and open environment. I provide healthy coping skills to help with the day to day tasks, while also processing those distressing experiences.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
