As a Washington state licensed psychologist and a certified school psychologist, I specialize in child and adolescent psychological evaluations.
Parents sometimes face very important questions about their children, including: Does my child have ADHD or a learning disability? Why is my daughter having so many social difficulties? Is my son's defiance a normal part of his development? Is my teenager depressed? Are my child's worries normal for someone her age? Does my preschooler have a developmental delay? Is my child gifted? Is my daughter suffering post-concussion syndrome after her sports-related injury? Psychological and neuropsychological evaluations are used to answer these and other questions about a child’s development and needs.

In addition, I have specialized interest, training, and experience in child and adolescent therapy, early childhood mental health issues, marriage & family therapy, complex grief, disaster & PTSD counseling, mediation & high conflict family problems.
I will actively use my training and experience to help you meet your needs & goals. Successful treatment is a direct result of mutual efforts, honesty, respect, and collaboration. Life is full of transitions. Many transitions require skill to navigate. Some happen easily and others require thought, planning and occasionally outside help. I regularly help people manage depression, anxiety, life & work transitions, relationship problems, the processing of and recovery from trauma, and developmental issues throughout the lifespan.

I recognize the significant impact of trauma on adults, children, and families. My passion is supporting parents, children, and families not only in their present healing. I aim to give insight into their own struggles to heal the inter-generational trauma and heal future generations. It stops with you. Systemic therapy looks at not just about the individual, but their family, community, the larger societal values and how that power, privilege, and inequity impacts the person in the therapy room with me.

I work with teens and adults, couples, and families to help them resolve conflict, increase emotional and physical intimacy in relationships, and live more authentically. I believe that counseling creates opportunities for individuals, couples, and families to explore their unique life experiences and empowers them to accomplish their mental health and relationship goals. Previously, I worked with U.S. military veterans and their families to help them nurture safe and authentic relationships with their spouses and loved ones while readjusting to civilian life.

It takes tremendous courage to work on yourself. Change is hard. While I can’t do this work for you, I will walk beside you. You will have my guidance and support as you learn how to examine your own actions, choices, and relationships. I love helping my clients figure out what they want and how to make it happen. Let’s work together to find, care for, and celebrate you; as you are, have been, and would like to be.

We all find ourselves in places in our lives where we ask how we arrived to where we are. It can be confusing, disorienting, and overwhelming. Sometimes being able to shift focus and try a new approach can be helpful. My hope is to have the privilege to walk along side you as you consider change, embrace exploration, and solidify your internal foundation. Adolescents and children face difficulties that can become behavioral challenges for parents and the family system. Changes from loss, family additions, and divorce can also be unsettling. Knowing how to navigate through those challenges sometimes requires outside support.

Taking the time and effort to increase self-awareness and explore your behavioral patterns and thoughts can be one of the most valuable things that you do in your life. Seeking therapy is a sign of personal strength, not of weakness. Therapy is one method to explore how your thoughts, feelings and behaviors influence your daily choices and relationships. Working with a licensed therapist can provide the objective and knowledgeable feedback needed to identify specific barriers, define and develop goals and gain the valuable skills and confidence to make that change.

You're here because you can't do it alone anymore. You need help to shake the stuck feeling and wonder if depression, anxiety, co-dependency [or insert struggle of choice] are winning this battle. You try to quit old habits and form healthier habits, but to no avail. You want to be in relationships that build you up but, more often than not, you feel doubt. Your self-esteem is in question. You don't feel like yourself anymore... whoever that may be. It's time to find help that will really move you out of this stuck place.

I am trained in EMDR and am trauma focused. I specialize in anxiety, women's issues, DV & body esteem. Healing can be a beautiful process, both physically and mentally. It can bring relief from pain, restore functionality, and promote a sense of well-being. It can also offer an opportunity for personal growth and self-discovery. The philosophy of trauma-informed counseling is based on the understanding that individuals who have experienced trauma require specialized care and support. I acknowledge the impact of trauma on my clients' lives and work collaboratively with them to identify and address their individual needs and goals.

Are you a neurodiverse and/or queer identified person struggling to adapt to the pressures and expectations of our current social structure? Do you find yourself apologizing a lot to people who deem you irresponsible, lazy, dramatic, overly emotional, spaced out, or incapable of following through? Does the movement of time feel abstract and meaningless one moment and then overwhelming and stressful another? Do you ever think maybe this world was designed for others more capable than yourself? Are you struggling with who you are and how you show up? Are you stuck? Are you a creative with no inspiration?

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
